Been trying to find some new landbased spots lately cos the Coomera just isn't doing it for me lately and Monday's near donut didn't help at Chevron so when Geoff got a leave pass yesterday i jumped at the chance and had a spot on google maps ready to try.

The plan was to use mainly sps and lures while geoff used bait and as usual that plan went out the window after half an hour or so. I just don't have the patience to flick lures for hours on end if I don't get any hits.

we found a fishy looking spot

Started using some very large green prawns from woolies on an unweighted 8/0 gamatsu circle hook and had a big hit only to have my 20lb mono trace sliced instantly

At least geoff got his first fish in this spot ( his only one for the night ) guffaw

Anyway, to cut a short story shorter I caught three jacks in an hour all lb and all in the same spot!

Yeah yeah I know theyre only small but who cares? ( geoff caught one bream )

We ran out of bait with things heating up and I'm pretty sure next time we hit up the same spot we'll get onto some bigger models ( geoff caught one bream all night ) It's good to finally have a bit of success on the jacks cos I was worried I wasn't going to get one all summer. Fishing is not a competition and Geoff and I share our successes but...( geoff caught one bream all night )

Sounds like you've found a great spot, it's satisfying when all that research pays off on a few target fish. Just a question though, do you always use 8/0s in the creeks? They're huge :woohoo:

Used 8/0 mainly cos the prawns were MASSIVE...... but yeah, generally use 6/0 or bigger. If they're circle hooks even a 30cm bream will get itself hooked easily on them and I'm a big believer in targeting the larger fish around, if small fish steal my bait I don't care cos I'm not a bream fisherman ( unlike geoff ) bwahahahahah

Thanks Carter....I'll be heading up to the fishing shack first opportunity I get mate and you can put me onto some good ones! Looks like a fishos paradise up there, good on you mate. You're pretty much doing what I would love to do with my life that's for sure!

Catching small jacks is much better then not catching them at all and in a good looking stretch of water.

Yep, definitely gonna head back there and take the yaks....a couple hundred metres of creek just like that but couldn't access it all on foot.....dawn session I reckon should be good
