WTB: Bow mounted electric

Hey guys, If anyone is thinking of selling (or knows of someone) who's trying to sell a bow mounted electric motor please reply here or shoot me a pm. Just started looking now so not sure what prices are like so can someone give me a rough guestimate on how much i should be paying? Obviously depends on 44/54/55/80 and Jarvis Walker - Minnkota - Motorguide but just a guestimate so i know ballpark what they're worth.

Saw a post on another forum, someone is thinking of selling they're 80lb cable steer motor guide for 600 - good buy? or depends how old it is. And if its 80lb does that mean it'd be 24v? (2 batteries?)

Thankyou!

80lb sounds a bit big for your size boat imo,

i had a 54lb on a similar hull and that was heaps, it was a motorguide, cable steering was fine and quicker to spin around imo. the speed adjuster was a bit hard to work with the foot but i didnt change that much anyway.

+1 80lb way to powerful and Your boat wont like the weight of the 2 batteries to run it!!! cable steer is definately the way to go. I'd reccomend staying away from the minnkota sh!t tide also :P

I recon spend the extra cash and get a minn kota.

Too many people have had serious problems with Jarvis Walker units.

Even if you can find an old Riptide that's not working you can rebuild them very easily and very cheaply with parts from America.

Most people do not realize how simple these things are inside so discard them very cheaply.

What seems to be going wrong with the watersnakes though denny? did yours and ted have the same problem?

and yes i figured 80 was a bit crazy :(

Mine goes straight, when I try to turn it, it stays straight, sometimes if its turned off and I turn it to a position I want it will turn on  Anyway I've tried fixing it, I got my auto sparky to take a look he couldn't fix it, so bugger it off to the tip (unless someone on here would care to have a look) and next year, I pilot.

After sales service and warranty repairs for watersnake are superior to minnkota and minnkota parts are double the price of watersnake for out of warranty repairs.

With watersnake you ring them and they give help over the phone and if they diagnose foot pedal faulty they send new one overnight courier. Minnkota you have to take it to BLA for repair but they do advertise 3 day turn around for repairs.

I am very happy with my i-pilot and wouldnt have anything else but they are exy to purchase.

Cheers

get in touch with Booty, his mate Craig has a watersnake lying around. not sure on price but we were just talking about it the other week at Mondy

Yes... and Booty is talking about a radical bow remodelling to fit it on his boat too!

So back off

so it was you that wanted my bow mount setup?

khoi if you can fork out the bucks i've been pretty impressed with seeing both ray's (and craig's) ipilot in action at npd and mondy respectively.

that said i'm running a watersnake because it was all i could fork out for and will use it until it breaks. it's been about 1.5 years with three trips to mondy and loads of other canal/river bashing in between. jarvis walker have sent me a new wireless circuit free of charge when they increased the range capacity (there was nothing wrong with mine, the hand remote would just be a little buggy if i was over 10m away. so their warranty/service has been pretty good.

i think for the vast number of people using either of these three brands there will most certainly be failures, unfortunately it's always these cases which get vocalised the most.

i'd say if you can fork out the bucks get a minn kota straight up, if money is tight then go for the watersnake and consider spending the money on a good battery plus charger (which will cost a bit), use the snake for 1-2 years and just simply upgrade.

Thanks Eug I was kinda thinking the same thing last night. Christmas presents and a lot of random spending by me = not enough for a minn kota atm, the solution?

Maybe I'll buy a Watersnake now, if it breaks within the year then it obviously has warranty and i can send it back etc but it'll actually enable me to use the boat to its potential for the time being?

If i find within the next year that i don't like it then i'll simply sell it and upgrade but for now i'm thinking i'll just get one (unless i can find a 2nd hand kota or something soon) so that i can actually get out there and fish?

Does that make sense?

Also, have a ctek charger at home just need a battery. Saw a 120a popup on ausfish for $265 is that avg price? What brand/type of battery should i be looking for? a deep cycle over 100amp?

the same train of thought i had khoi, i intended on upgrading the watersnake but it's still going and i'm quite happy to have gotten this far with it. considering it's around half the price you'd have to get the minn kota/motorguide to run for 4 years to get the same value out of them.

deep cycle over 100amp is my suggestion, if you're just correcting the drift then you'll get around 2 days out of it (wind pending) on the troll maybe around 0.5 - 1 day.

then there is lead acid or agm (absorbed glass matt), the later is sealed and will operate upside down, etc. and more durable - perfect if you store it up the front of the bow and often go into chop.

p.s. that ausfish one is a pretty good deal. i'd jump on it.
