Newport Canals

Hit up Newport Canals this morning nice and early. Got up at 3, on the water at 4. Wasn't a bad start to the day, throwing poppers around had quite a few hits off the rock wall on the lead in, but no hook ups unfortunately. I thought on this start it should be a good day.

Fished for a while hitting the rock walls and pontoons for little result until this little fella popped up from under one of the older pontoons on the 'Greedy Guts 66 Carmen Red'. Felt the bump so paused and within 2 more winds bang I'm on. Didn't put up much of a fight, but doesn't matter, I'm finally catching fish on the hard body lures. Well and truly hooked now.

Anyway there were a number of bumps after that and 1 solid hit but no more hook ups, was hoping for a few more fish but thats the way it goes and I avoided the dreaded donut.

Cheers

good to see you're having some success on the hb's Freshy! That cod has gotta instill some confidence in you for sure.....my missus reckons they're ugly things and is surprised every time I catch one at my reaction. I reckon they're a top looking critter and they're good on the table as well, not to mention they're a dirty fighter, heading straight back into their little hole and doing their best to snag you up  keep at it, hope to see some more catches on the hb's over the next few weeks.

'Nice work Freshy, those canals are dead to me.'

Tom, it was nice to get something outta there, but I won't be back there in a hurry!!!

Thanks guys, yeah the confidence is up, will be using the hard bodies more and more... I'm sure a Jack is not far around the corner, am going to be hitting Coochin some time soon and will be trying the Coomera again as well as Noosa.

But anything on the hb's is good as far as I'm concerned!!!!

Cheers
