queensland My first bass/ First freshwater fish

Went for a quick fish with a mate that lived behind the dam wall at NPD yesterday. That morning i was getting quite excited to go and chase a bass or any fish from the fresh. We dug up a few healthy worms from mums garden and off we went. Never been to NPD but on first arrival i thought it was a great place to spend to have a bbq with family and friends.

We started at the park with the bbq areas close to the wall using some worms. I soon got bored not getting any bites so i suggested we walked the bank throwing lures. After a few hours without anything i finally got a hook-up but it soon spat the hook. Another hour passes by and finally got a solid hook-up on the spinnerbait. It wasn't a massive bass at all most of you guys wouldnt even call it a bass it was that small :blush: it would of been lucky to go 20cms.

Another few hours had gone past with nothing so another move was in order to another part of the dam. Unlike the spot we just came from i had alot of confidence of getting a fish in the area. 15mins later I felt a small touch right at my feet so a made a quick cast back in the same spot with a slower retrieve and wack i was on again. With a short fish around the snags another bass was landed. This fish was abit better for size but still not huge it would be close to 35cm and seemed like a healthy fish. We walked the bank for another or so then the call was to head home as we could see the rain coming. WAlking past the spot i caught the bass i had to make another cast and sure enough i pulled another fish close to the same size as the last.

After the day long session without to many fish i could see why so many people like to catch bass. They pull like a frieght train and hit quite hard. I think ill be doing alot more bass fishing.

Thanks mate.It doesnt beat jigging or gamefishing but I dont mind it at all. I'll probably do alot more freshwater fishing over the next couple of months. I noticed that the area is alot cleaner then the estuary places i got to and its just full of rubbish.

A bonuses is that if i take the partner fishing she can feed the ducks and I can fish and hopefully she wont annoy me and say lets go after an hour of being there.
