Jack Combo Suggestions?

Hey Guys!

I'm looking for suggestions on a salt water baitcast combo for mangrove jack and sometimes Jewies.

Looking to spend around $500

What would you get?

I don't know much about baitcasters but what ever you get make sure it's really light weight because the Jacks always get hooked on the lightest combo you have and never on the one you intended to catch them on.

So pre much buy another bream stick haha I just got a Polaris matched with a 4-6kilo rod off whiskers for 35 bucks and handled a 43cm jack easy spooled with 20lb if that helps and are u throwing plastics, hard bodies or live baiting?

Spent years chasing them with no luck but I have been using 30-40lb so maybe there is some truth to the fish light suggestion?

I know I'll be droping down to 10-20lb this summer.

I use a Curado 201E7 30lb Bionic on a Boss Pression 10-15kg but as above no joy

havent even thought about selling mine til i read this mate but i set up a baitcaster for jacks this year but am now using my spin outfits more, Its a Diawa Zillion Low Speed ($440 brand new with receipts) only used about 5-6 times and a fantastic reel. The rod is a 6-14lb Diawa Sol. Both As new in boxes and bags. Havent even thought of a price but if your at all interested let me know as i do need a new 2000 reel!! trade perhaps??

think im more after a 2000 size new caldia or luvias mate but im willing to let zillion go for $320 and the sol go for $180. So $500 even for both . The Zillion is spooled with 20lb fins and both are in immaculate condition. Not sure how reasonable that is second hand as i've actually never sold my gear before but ask around to see how that comes in and let me know if your interested mate.

good gear doesnt make a fisho good and their is nothing you wont catch on a 200 buck combo compaired to a 600 buck combo.

go get an aus tackle 10kg baitcaster rod and then a 200 buck reel like a tierra reel and spool it with 20lb. it will handle jacks with easy.

i have the evact combo and i just did a jack trip up to noosa and got my big jack on it. i also use it to target murry cod, flathead, jew threadies ect.

and with the money you save buy a heap of lures.

remember if you buy something exy and you break it, it will hurt alot.

I agree with madmullet. I cant spend much more than $300 on a combo. there are some great products around to suit modest anglers. I leave the over priced gear to the pros.

I got a 48 out of a snafu rocky outcrop the other night on 10lb on a 2500 cheaply daiwa on a Samaritan zing it's not the most expensive combo but it sure does the job

Have a look at the 2500/3000 size daiwa freams (tacklewarehouse) has them for $219 good drag and the match it up from there you could get away with a very good combo for about 400/450 dollars

10lb braid on a 3-6kg rod and the best reel you can afford will knock over most Jacks.25-30lb leader is ample for most scinarios.

It all depends on how and where you intend to target them. I catch them on 6 lb and on 20 lb depending on how I target them, but mostly use 10lb which is also good for many other species.
