Portable Navigation Lights

Has anyone tried these?

I only found out they were on the market recently, and am wondering if they could be a good band aid solution to my wiring issues.

I started with these in my tinny before I got round to wiring it up. Work fine but I got told by water police that they weren't legal as they don't shine the required 2 nautical miles (from memory). Which begs the question - why do they make them then? BCF stock them also.

a tinnie with bugger all freeboard would not be seen at 1 nm due to the curve of the earth so the 2nm rule is bit of a wank really. But no matter how bright the lights its hard to discern them from city lights in the background. I think the police would be hard pressed to prove their case if they pinged you for it (if you wanna risk it) instead of fixing the wiring problem
