Boat modifications to help make life easier?

Hmmm didnt know what else to put as the title but what small/big mods have people done on they're boats to make life easier?

First couple things i've noticed are that i have nowhere to put my drinks so soon as i have some free time i'll shoot out and try find somewhere to buy those and figure out where to get them.

Finished christmas shopping a bit earlier today so shot off to my parents place and got around to washing the boat and trailer down and then flush. Finally found some spare rod holders (the vertical kind, pictures will explain) so fitted them up and here is the result:

So next up is the drink holders, then , fitting some more cabin lights - probably look into some sort of strip LED and fit them under the gunnels.

But yeah what else have people done that a noobie wouldn't realise?

Dell asked me same thing Jeremy, I'm either gonna make-up a wooden bracket and mount it on the floor then recess some holes for the butts to sit in.

Either that or possibly look into running a couple bungee cords to hold the rods in. I doubt this will work as well as the wooden bracket idea though - or any other suggestions to help keep the rods in place? This will only be for use while boats on the water. Not sure if i trust having my rods in here while on the highway incase :S

These are the LED's I got for mine Khoi, they were very easy to intstall:

Are they hard to wire up denny? As in hooking up the power and then running a switch into that panel i already have?

edit - mite get something like what you showed me denny or this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/12-Volt-LED-Strip-Module-Light-Garden-Camping-Boat-Bar-/270810886325?pt=AU_Boat_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3f0d9630b5

- fire extinguisher

- small toolkit (medical kit, spare sparks, bulbs, shifters, gaffa tape, zippies, screwdrivers, etc.)

- i also carry a bit of rope (length of the boat + trailer) to tie off around the transom area to help retrieving in wind. keeps the rear from swinging around.

all i can think of at the moment.

try this khoi, it's cheaper again and total 8m length. i'm about to order some myself, not sure about quality though.

easy to wire up, but do it properly with shrink wrap, etc. so you just do it once and do it right.

Awsome thanks for that, Rob said there was a thread somewhere that was basically a "what gear to have on your boat" - but i cant seem to find it. It's good to hear from people so i know what to carry incase anything goes wrong.

Good find for the led strips too! I'll grab some in a couple weeks :D:D

I think a piece of wood with a hole saw put through it equally spaced would suit fine, just make sure you seal it up good before fixing it down so it doesnt rot.

Could do the same with some plastic if you could find a decent block of plastic...

Hey man, found a different type of rod holders and they have a bottom plastic bracket which fully holds the rod but in so i'll just grab those and make life easy :)

something i've been meaning to do but haven't quite nutted out yet is a small area where i can hang up my used hardbodies and jigheads. at the moment i'm just putting them around a rim of a bucket but i've been thinking about a small strip of plastic with holes or similar. also need to find an out of the way place to put it.

I was just thinking of that today Eug, there is this plastic/polyurethane "bracket", you can fit knife/pliers/scissors and then it has holes to hang jigheads and hardbodies.

I'll either buy that or just mount a plastic tab somewhere and drill holes into it so i have somewhere to hang used lures so i know to clean them. At the moment i hang all my used stuff off my compass haha then clean them when i get home

See if you can store Mick Filet somewhere in your boat lol he's awesome when it comes to boat problems

Do you have a live well?

Flares, V Sheet, Oars, Bucket, Torch, Extinguisher, Small Tool Kit

The LED lights is a cool idea, gonna look at doing that for my boat

Yeah mate Mick is awsome when it boats/fishing :D

I don't have a live-well yet, i have a small bait tank at the back but its not plumbed i just run a portable aerator for now. If i got a bit bigger tank i'd be able to fit a few breambos in thur

2 clips like your anchor lights is in , a piece of broom handle with a pool noodle over it is the perfect lure hanger B)

What about an in line fuel filter.

Great idea if you're not getting out as often as you'd like as it will prevent the water that gathers in the tank from entering the engines fuel system. They're a pinch of piss to install Might just need to but a bit if extra fuel line to make the fuel line sit tidy

as mentioned above the led lights are also a great idea. You should be able to get 5 metres with 300 individual led's on self adhesive backing off ebay for about <$25 delivered just make sure they're IP67 or more the anything less will not be water proof despite what they say.

Look for "5M 300 LEDs Waterproof Light Strip 3528 Pure White they shed plenty of light, I think the others available are 5050's and they are more expensive & far to bright and draw more amps

PS you can cut them in half just look along the strip where there are 2 :: made out of solder, they should be every foot or so, just cut across the strip between them ie : | : and remember that LEDs only work with the polatity going one way so check which is positive & which is negative

Here is the thread to do with my boat lights and sound system etc.

The old threads bring back some good laughs, but couldnt find the thread where I realised when I had a stubby in the holder I couldnt get full throttle.... duh!

All good advice so far gents, but I think mine is the best.

I think the problem here is you have parked too close to a certain walrus?

Pick up a strip of EVA/Closed cell foam from Clark Rubber and some sticky back/self adhesive velcro/touch tape and then you have a moveable hook holder. If you don't like where you first put it, stick some velcro somewhere else and reattach it.

Here's a few of my oldie but goodies.

For the smaller rod and reels a 40mm electrical conduit cut and shaped to suit.

A removable peice of bed linen with velcro stitched on that sticks to your carpet, ideal when cast netting, just remove and wash over the side.

A mirror hooked on to bowspirit to reverse up to boat single handed.saves the wife standing and pointing in all directions.

Hope they inspire and help.
