Yakking for Bream and Giant Herring on fly

Now that myself, flash1980 and onthechew are now all owners of Tarpon 120 kayaks we decided to go for a float this morning and try our luck and see if andrew could blood his kayak first trip. Arrived at our spot at about 4.00am and hit the water straight away in search of fish and it didn't take andrew long hooking the first fish of the morning being a decent size bream on a hard body of some sorts. Andrew yelled out there were a few hits were he was so i've moved in on his patch eager to blood the fly combo and actually catch something on it. Chucked the fluff for a bit using a crazy charlie pattern fly and came up tight on my first fly caught fish :woohoo: Not a bad start of a bream going about 30cm. Meanwhile gordo was in the background playing a fish with alot of splashing and jumping going on as he'd hooked a giant herring on the fly gear which was pretty cool. Gordo mentioned there were a few where he was so all three of us peppered the area for a while when my fly was taken and i'm thinking sweet im onto a herring as well but the thing didn't jump and felt a bit different, after sorting out the loose line and gaining control up pops a nice bream that would've gone mid to high thirties. A bit later on I managed to hook a nice size herring but the thing took to the air instantly and the line broke, you win some you loose some. After that a few more bream were landed on hard bodies and a flattie as well so all up a good mornings fishing and some fish caught on the fly as well. Only have a couple of bream photos and one of the herring but wont put up the herring photo as it might give away the spot. B)

Cheers

Mark

That pelican case of mine is water proof, so could take out the DSLR, but weighs a bit and would hate to drop it, but would have got some better photos. It was good to get out for a quick flick and blood the new yak. Now to start kitting it out  and all of the new tackle that goes along with that style of fishing  . At least I have something to do now if the weather is not good enough to go offshore. Good work on the fly catches but it is still very ...... .

Andrew

PS. There will never be a fly rod go on my boat, otherwise new deckies will be required :P
