Making the most of it

Hi guys, well this is the busiest time of year both in the shop and on the water, this left me with not much time to get my fishing fix this week.

A quick check of tides and weather and 3 trips planned in 30 hours if the old fella could hack the pace.

Early start Tuesday morning saw Chris C and myself in the Broadwater, perfect conditions but we could only land 4 Jew and a Tailor with a few others missed.

Chris got his first opportunity to see the Tarpon surface feeding, he also found out that this doesn't make them easier to catch, just more frustrating.

Back home and off to dig worms for a whiting trip with Aeryn and Phill, fished between 3.30pm and 6.30 pm in the Nerang for 20 whiting up to 40cm.

Another early start this morning with a workmate, saw 1 and a half hours of lure fishing for only a couple of Butter Bream and this old guy was wishing he was back in bed.

Then somebody rang the dinner bell and 3 Snapper, 1 Jew, 1 Nannygy and 1 Grassy were caught in quick succession, then they stopped biting once more.

Christened a couple of new outfits as well which is always nice and the Grassy was my first on a blade, damn things go hard.

One of the new rods was a Nordic Stage "Areal" that came from the SOO comp, 3lb braid 6lb leader and even though it is a very light weight rod handled legal size Snapper quite easily, very impressed Angus.

For some strange reason i am a bit weary now but ready to tackle the rest of the Christmas rush at work, to everyone having a fish, good luck and stay safe, cheers wayne

The snapper in the first snapper pic in the opening post looks like it's about to explode - all puffed up like a puffer fish haha.

Hope you don't mind me tacking on a little report of ours

Last night I did an allnighter with a couple of other strange AFO lads and Dazza tagged along for gentlemens' hours. We were hunting whiting in the Nerang with Blood worms and Youngy-style rigging and tackle. Hard to get used to the heavy ball but it paid dividends eventually. The bite was slow (non existent) until I looked up AFO and opened this thread. I scrolled down and saw a pic of Youngy's face and bang !! first 30 odd for me for the night. Strange night - we fished from 5:30/6pm until around 3am. The bites would come in short spurts with 1 or 2 fish then nothing for 30/45 minutes and then a couple more then another pause. So it went on.

Got home just after 4 and I'm just about ready for bed.

Got a feed or two for the family so I'm happy......happy others were helping with the numbers lol

Hi Brian, good to see you got a feed mate, reading between the lines it sounds like you sat in a spot and waited till the fish came to you.

I tend to move around a bit till i find where they are feeding in bigger numbers, "20 minute rule" no fish put in esky for 20 minutes then move.

Amazing how many times you will pull up and catch a couple then they disappear, last 2 trips have seen better quality fish caught around sunset.

Haven't caught a skinny snapper down here mate they are all fat as fools.

You can add as many whiting posts to mine any time mate.

Enjoy your feed, still one of the best eating fish around, cheers wayne

As brian said it was solw at time then it come quick then nothing again,we ended up with a good feed of 7 whitting ranging from 27cm being the smallest up to 1x30cm 1x34 1x35 and 3 that went 36 and went nuts at the boat. I think it may have something to do with my big ugly head but fot once i out fished the andreaas she only got 1
