Somerset and Wivenhoe today,, Help!

So I'm trying to get into bass fishing and I just can't seem to get off the mark and get that monkey off my back. Went for a drive with the family today (thus no Yak) out through Fernvale and tried fishing at both Wivenhoe (Logans Inlet) and Somerset (the spit). Flicked Blades and Spinnerbaits without so much as a touch (Had a few Gar follows but thats it). Using a 2-4kg Shimano Sonic and a 2500 Sienna with 6lb fins and 6lb leader.

Advice?

I'd stick to the rivers rather than dams, there is a lot of water to cover in a dam. If you've got some time off over the next couple of weeks we could go for a sesh on the yaks. Not promising anything with my record lately but we might be able to get you onto one or two.
