Surf Spinning - Braid or Mono?

Hey all,

I've got a 750/7500 sized spinning reel I picked up at Austackle last year but am yet to use it. Going to Burleigh Heads for 5 days at Easter so planning to chuck it on one of my surf rods and spin some metal slugs and possibly poppers with it. For this purpose, does it matter much whether I go with braid or mono (not sure if the extra stretch in the mono would be an advantage/disadvantage)? Will also use the reel in the boat occasionally for a variety of uses (live baits plus possibly trolling and flicking slugs/poppers) so thinking between 20-30lb.

Any advice much appreciated.

If you're going to use it for all those things then braid is the go. When spinning in the surf and/or around rocks just use a mono/fluro leader where it's length will see the join knot just outside the bale arm when casting.

You should be able to cast a lot further with the braid. With 20/30lb wind knots should not be a problem either.

Cheers Brian, sounds like sound advice. Ok, so I'm off braid shopping ...... Next question: I noticed in the BCF catalouge that Power Pro and Fin braids are both 20% off. Anyone got a STRONG opinion on which ones better, or are they much the same?
