Pumpkin Island Trout

Gday all :)

I have all ways wanted to land a coral trout and experience their brute force for ever. since my bday came around again me and a mate mick decided to head to pumpkin island and have a crack at them. I finished work last thursday at 2:30pm and we headed off up the coast. we arrived at Rosslyn marina at mid night and started flicking around the ramps til light, we did not manage a strike :(

first light and the wind was blowing 20-25 knots e/se so our plans to hit the islands was called off for now and we played around the marina rock walls to get out of the wind and swell. first fish up was a lil cod

followed by a cod for mick

we then found some small bust ups and started flicking blades and plastics at them, turns out to be a heap of small trevs and queenies, we had a ball with these fellas for a few hours catching and releasing

we changed tactics and threw on some big hard bodies and started trolling the cliff face on the eastern side of pumpkin in hope of mackies, on the first pass my xrap was nailed by another nice trout in 7 mtrs of water, he was a bit more red.

It seems like you have at least 2 birthday holidays a year ya lucky sod :P:lol:

Congrats on the trout. No-one I know has ever mentioned that they go hard before, they all just rave about the eating quality.

Good trip and report. Happy birthday. :silly:

(by my calculations you should be about 58 ? lol)

thanks all for the bday wishes

K.A.F it took ten hours with road works and a stop at benaraby to stretch the legs and flick some lures before the last leg of the trip, we encountered 8 sets of traffic lights from gin gin to benaraby  lol

sehrguht its about 16klms from rosslyn, very easy trip in the right conditions in a small tinny.. i am upgrading my hull for the next trip in may so i can handle the 20knot winds a bit easier, plus i plan on staying on the island next trip, heaps of protection from the wind there !
