Indigo GSM/Sattelite phones.

Recommended Posts

At the BCF club night there was couple of reps from Indigo telecom spruiking about their combination satellite/gsm phones. When in normal range the phone operates on the telstra gsm network and when out of telstra range it operates on their sattelite.

Only drawback of the satellite phone is that you have to be in sight of the satellite. ie you have to be outdoors and not under trees.

Call charges are reasonable but handsets are expensive but depending where you live or intend to use the phone you may be eligible for a government rebate of up to 85% of the cost of the handset.

They are also in the very near future going to introduce a waterproof and drop proof gsm handset that will retail at around $125 and less for BCF club members.
