Okay put the call out during the week to see who was keen to come along to Brays rock in the yak to try and chase some of the Longies that have been round there of late and Baptism was keen to tag along so the call was made to launch at Moffats beach at 6.00am. I haven't really chased any Tuna yet this season so after putting up some tips on catching them I thought it best to actually catch some especially before the Tuna social plus On-The-Chew was out offshore today aswell so the challenge was boat v yak.

Met Baptism at Moffats and proceeded to set up the gear and check out the launch conditions and all looked good with the usual small shore break that can catch you out if you're not quick enough. Both yaks were dragged onto the sand and I advised the launch consisted of waiting for a gap and going for it and before i'd even finished the sentence I spotted a gap and was off and out with no trouble only problem was I left Baptism behind and he followed just after and as I turned around his Hobie was sideways and him in the water taking a dip :woohoo: He quickly got back on and got going with the only loss being his water bottle.

Paddled out towards Brays trolling along the way with not alot of action at first but come about eightish birds were starting to work the area but the Tuna weren't really making themselves known. Did a few laps back and forth for no luck then decided to head out from Brays towards the blinker, as I got closer to Brays my rod bounced and it appeared a fish was on the end, sweet. Thinking it wasn't of any size and most likely a small Squire I locked the drag up and proceeded to wind it in only problem was that it went from a small Squire to a Longie as the pressure came on, thing is I was using a Saltiga S-Extreme 76 Game with a Biomaster 8000pg with 50lb braid almost a middle weight popping outfit and with a locked drag and and 7'6 rod in a kayak with a really long butt on it I was in all sorts of struggle town. Poor fish didn't run at all and just went around under the kayak like they normally do with me trying to lift the fish with the rod easily doing it but due to the length of the butt it was near impossible to lift the dam thing. After about 5 min the gaff was in and the fish was landed. It fell for a Halco Laser Pro in the classic white with red head combo.

Paddled around again for a while and continued onto the blinker for no result there and decided to head back towards Brays. The birds had thinned out abit but the ones that were around were on top of fish. Baptism was on first getting a cast into a school only to loose it not long after so he rerigged and proceeded to hook another fish which towed him faster than his Hobies ever been out towards open ocean. He lost that fish also, I might add he was using a baitcaster setup of some kind although more than capable of landing Tuna it wouldn't be my first choice of rod and reel for Tuna. He also hooked another whilst trolling that won it's freedom also.

At this stage there were a few schools here and there and I was throwing around a plastic on my LuckyCraft when the top section decided it didn't want to be attached to the bottom section any more and said we need a break from each other which is exactly what they did as it broke when I cast. I'm not having much luck with rods and Tuna in the yak but so be it.

Back to the Saltiga and I had a slug on that and I fired it into a school and ripped back only to be refused four casts in a row so on the next cast I slowed it right down to a barely moving pace as it went through the fish and it was smashed and I was on again. This fish took abit more line probably 20m before it did the same old circle work under the yak with me groaning trying to get the fish up but eventually I won and my second Longie was landed for the day.

It went dead after that so we headed back in with out any trouble on the landing at Moffats, it might not have been as smooth for Baptism if I hadn't gone first so as to help him but you learn these things. Plus his first trip out there and he hooked three Tuna all on baitcasting gear so that's a pretty good effort in itself. A good day all in all.

Also On-The-Chew caught bugger all in the boat so the yak won for the day B)

Wish I could have been there too, something always keeps getting in the way of me ticking that off my list of To-Do's.

Looks like it will be a while till I get a chance too ( 2 weeks till baby # 2 is due ) so maybe next season :)

Congrats on a great session and thanks for sharing
