dual battery systems

i'm looking at chucking a dual battery system into the triton to run things when we're camping and to plug a little inverter in to run my battery chargers at work. I'm new to this world of 4wds and 12v electronics so don't know the good from the bad when it comes to brands and componants.

I'm not worried about putting it in myself, but am willing to let someone come around/me come to their place to help as well as it would be my first install, unless someone knows of a place that sells & installs for a good price.

thanks for the help

Neil, I.ve been messing with my batteries and electronics this week and put on the batteries Anderson Plugs for the charger so I can leave them both on the charger all the time, I had a bloke at Muffatt Beach make up the cables for me and thought he was reasonable, he knows his stuff and the entire business in 12 volt accesories and batteries his details are,

Hi mate, where are you putting the second battery? If components such as ABS sensors need to be moved then I would suggest getting a pro to do that. If not then it is a great diy project and is really simple. For my system I use a 140 Amp Voltage Sensing Relay that I picked up from Repco for about $200 or maybe even less, it is simply a case of running the supplied power cable from positive to positve through the VSR with a small earth wire going from the VSR, all cables and instructions are supplied in the kit. Mine switches on at around 13.6v and off once the voltage in the main drops below 12.6v or thereabouts, despite what the VSR says. There are a lot of kits that will do the same job, Matson, Projecta, Redarc and so on, you can get kits that have a button on them so if you find yourself with a flat main you just push the override and it joins both batteries to get your vehicle started, but personally I have never had a problem with my main battery after this kit was installed so don't feel the need for that feature.

As you can see, one power in, a power and an earth wire out.

I always like to add extra earth straps from both the main and second battery whenever I am adding more accessories to the vehicle, just for a little peace of mind. If you want a hand with it I am more than happy to help.

Ant.
