queensland Great day in the Bay 12/5

Spent the day with Khoi in the Bay today with the intention of chasing Bream around the various islands. We had a slow start near Maclaey with a just legal Bream first up around 26cm on a hard body lure, followed by a decent 49cm flatty on an Atomic hardz for the esky.

The Pike and Grinners had well and truly set in and Khoi was getting over it pretty quick so the decision was made to head to Peel where we caught more pike We cracked the sh!ts pretty quick and headed across to Dunwhich. On arrival there were people everywhere and we had our doubts on catching anything but went to the spot and dropped the leccy. Well the first cast was enough to get things going :woohoo: I was using my Samurai 201 with a certate 1500 spooled with 4LB fireline/ 6LB leader and the 'ol favorite Damiki 3 inch Armour shad in Moebi anyway I let it hit the bottom gave it one lift and it took off. Line peeling, khoi on the leccy with the net ready and after a few tense moments first scoop and the fish was in the boat :woohoo: It was good fun because there was quite an audience, the jetty was full, the big red cat had just come in and was full, a jetski and two boats pulled up and a dolphin to top it off, paparazzi eat ya heart out

Things slowed down again so we moved around the area a bit. Khoi managed a few nice reef fish of some sort. We headed back to where I got the trev and I managed another :woohoo: this one came on a power bait.

Ten minutes later and another jumped on the Armour shad again, but there was no way I could turn it, he was much bigger and pulled like a teenager, bricked me on the pylons While this was going on Khoi did a booboo, stuffs me what was going on down the back but when I asked if he was on his reply was, the F'en Gopro was gone, ended up 6m down

After this we headed back to Maclaey and got into more pike so decided to chase flatties on the flats. I managed one small one on a blade. The Bream however where firing and we proceeded to land 8 legals in half an hour. We caught them on Armour shads, power baits and Damiki air craws, stand outs were a 30cmFL and a 34FL.

Anyway, to much dribble sorry we had a cracka day

Not long about 4 minutes but yeah very hectic with the pylons

Didn't notice any kingys mate but the third fish sure felt like are a large king. The next trip I will be taking a slightly heavier setup.

Yeah it's a bummer but the more i think about it - it could have been so much worse - losing a duff + exist.. the thought of this makes me want to cry.

It's not the price of the unit itself - it had lots of sentimental value and obviously the footage and pictures that were already on there.

Hugo - the leccy makes it a little easier to 'try' and steer them away from the pylons but once they get moving theres not much you can do on light line. Just wait for them to ease up and try turn them away. I was on the leccy and Denny giving me instructions on where the fish was going and where we wanted the boat to go and it worked =]
