Volunteering for Coast Guard / VMR

So, Im thinking about volunteering for the Coast Guard or VMR. Only just started seriously looking into it. Just wondering if anyone here has done/ is a volunteer and can share any experiences or information with me?

was a member of the old southport asr before they amalgamated and became vmr bailed because of the internal politics

What was the flexibility like Jeff? I work monday to friday so i would only be available on weekends.

I was really keen on the idea, but like jeff said, I was warned off by a few people who had been previously involved stating that there were too many big egos and politics. Sad as I really would like to be involved.
