G-Day

Fairly new to the site, just a typical Mexican from Melbourne. Finding the fishing quite tough, although not through lack of trying. Anyway got the parents coming up next week and I was wanting to take them to Harvey Bay for a couple of days. If anyone has got any tips, marks, what i should be chasing, areas to target it would be greatly appreciated. I've got a 5.25m stacer with a 90. I really do know nought about the area. Thanks to you if you can help me out.

I know no marks but Harvey Bay has a lot of reef and structure and also channels with deeper water so finding a fish shouldn't be too hard.

Jeff f lived up there so if you see him online send him a PM and he should be able to help out more.

Good luck with the trip. Let us know how ya go.

There is some spanish mackerel around the fairway bouy this time of year get some live bait or pilchards on wire rigs floated out on the surface early morning or late afternoon. Get yourself a brownies beacon to beacon book for all the channels you need to navigate this book covers from the bottom of moreton bay up to hervey bay essential to stop running aground up there and down here as well

Hey mate - great fishing up there however some of the areas can be a bit of a run to get to them. I was up there over easter with my boys. We had a blast chasing Long tail Tuna.

The Tuna I believe are moving south but there should still be some around. It is well worth the run up the bay to check them out.

The attached picture

Red = Tuna

Blue = Threadies, Barra and Flatties

Green = Reefies

Have a look at Fishintales for marks http://www.fishntales.com/gpsmarks/qld/herveybay.htm

The Artificials are an easy 15 minute run from the Harbor.

Good Luck mate Ted

First of all thanks to you blokes for you return posts, given me a start at least. In regard to the tuna is it a matter of dragging lures around or mainly throwing slugs at tuna busting up?

Tugger is the fairway bouy something i'll find by keeping an ear to the ground or in the beacon book?

Thanks again.

It is a matter of casting at bust ups or individual fish in the shallows. Best thing to use is 5 inch jerk shads like pink Snapbacks on a 3/8 or 1/2 inch jighead either with a rapid retrieve or varied retrieve. I use slugs if they are hard to get into the schools. They feed into the wind and current, run around the front of the school at let them come to you. Good Luck
