releasing bass

Hey guys,

went for a fish the other day with the hope of catching a few bass before closed season starts.

I wasn't having much success on lures so i switched to some garden worms. not long after i had casted out my rod buckled over and i managed to land a 30cm plus bass. when i went to unhook him and release him i found that the hook was right down his throat. unsure of what my best option was, i decided to cut the line, thinking i would do more damage hacking around trying to get the hook out.

if anyone has any advice on what to do next time it would be much appreciated. i was using a long shank hook, size 6 (i think), and a running sinker rig.

Thanks
