Hi guys

Can someone please give me some info on the following:

1)Which species can be target in the Brisbane river from March to August?

2)What are the best baits for these species? Live bait or dead baits? Fish baits or Worm?

3)Which species can be target in the open water or surf between March and August including sharks?

4)What are the bait preferences for these species?

Thx

Probably bream and flathead will be your main targets that time of year.

Live bait is always best. Expect catfish bycatch.

Tangalooma Flier gets up a good bow wave, but thats as close to surf as you will see in the Brisbane river.

They got me a few weekends back out at the port from shore. I was so busy scrambling to get my gear high and dry, forgot about my double pluggers. Saw them 5 minutes later about 20 metres out, with my bucket floating next to them, I tried to save them, I'm sorry pluggers!

Mar-Aug, bream/flathead/whiting

Edit: Live bait is always best (mullet/herring etc). Fresh bait is okay. Frozen bait not so good.

Thx for the info.

Is there any place within less than an hours drive from Brisbane where I can do some Rock & Surf fishing?

Ideally a place with good beach and water that drops to 4m+ within a 160m casting distance?

Also where can I target 100kg+ sharks?

Thx

Woorim beach on Bribie Island is a proper surf beach probably just over an hour from the CBD but just under from Northside suburbs. I understand there are sharks a-plenty, a pal of mine caught a 4' off the beach and a recent sharking social there only got cancelled due to the cyclone, you will need a bit of weight to hold the bottom and get through the wind as the wind and surf tend to knock you about a bit, I was just holding with 4oz and a whole pilly recently. I caught a small reef shark off the beach at Margate and I've been told you can see the hammerheads when heading out of the bay (while still in it) from Redcliffe. The big fish do venture into the bay but I think you are thinking along the right lines in giving the distance casting a go. I've the same idea just need to work on the distance and maybe downsize my reel a little. If you ever feel like having a go let me know. From the shore I prefer the incoming tide and I have caught more on the flood tide from the beach in my so far limited try's...
