Question regarding Brisbane River

I am doing a list up of things to do with the family for 2013. One of the activities that I have planned is seeing the Brisbane river by boat. I believe that fishing might be prohibited after a certain part of the river, but for me the family it is just a scenic excercise.

Secondly, the Whitworths store located at teh bottom of Frodsham road at Albion there has a boat ramp. Is this boat ramp accessable to the main part of the Brisbane river or is a better location or alternative better for launching?

Cheers Tony

Hey mate, yeah that will link up with the Brisbane river, at newstead park, or you could use pinkenba and show the family the underneath of the gateway bridge? It looks huuuuge when cruising on the river :D

Yeah that would be my advice too. Put in at Pinky and go under the gateway. I have been as far as the Uni from pinkenba you just need to keep an eye out for the City cats other wise it is a good way to see the city. Have been on a river cruise for an Xmas party at night and that was an awesome veiw of the city too.

If you aren't committed to taking your own boat, I can recommend taking a City Cat trip from the Uni (or Southbank) to Brett's Wharf and back on a nice sunny day or evening. We do this if we have interstate or overseas visitors and it gives you a different perpective of the city and the advantage of the City Cat is you can get on or off at different places for a look around or a meal. Have also done short trips through the city on the tinny, launching at South Brisbane. Lots of traffic so be careful and you can pull up on the small beach under the Story Bridge for a picnic.

I reckon it was a favourite place for painters and dockers to get together for "picnics"as well.

*picnics meaning after hours work.
