Dam levels

Hi guys all you out there with your dams in the SEQLD good to see some rain my dam is 6years old and before the last 4 weeks of rain it was at its lowset picked up about 2m in the last 4 weeks still about 1.5m below spillway . Also the fish would be loving it and they should be getting that little bit BIGGER BY THE END SUMMER.:silly::silly:

PS Would love to hear from anyone one that has or knows of private dams that older than mine cheers:

Bloke across the road has a dam, about 1/2 acre, been there for 20 odd years, has it stocked with Silvers.

Local kids sneak in and have a fish when he is away!

No, dont think much of silvers! Also there only about 10 inches long, not enough tucker for them

Hi pic's of my dam it is about 3.5m deep and about 1.5m down from spillway.I have a weedie shit that has appeared scents the last rain. Did this dislodged from the bottom due to water level change of 2m and will it die off:angry:

Pretty normal, bit of an algae bloom, probably old fertilser etc run off your ground into the dam.

Should settle down eventually. Got anything in it? I'd be stocking it with shrimp and redclaw, they'd eat some of that weed down. Then you have you freshwater bait source!

The normal weed should use up some of that nitrogen after a while, and th algae should die back a bit.

Isn't it illigal to stock Redclaw? Not their natural range.

I'd stock it with some native Blue Claw yabbies. Just go to another dam and put some traps in near a muddy embankment and then put the yabbies into your pond.

Unless you've already got some.

I'd buy like 500 live shrimp and keep em in their to breed, you have your own bait supply and maybe u could sell them??? Then put some baby bass in and a couple of yella's.

Dam is 6 years old its full of shrimp

,gudgeons i let it go for 1 year before i add 150 bass 150 yella's 100 silvers and one or two other fish ;)or may be three or four anyway some of the bass and yellas just about legal ellicat over for NRL GF DAY for a fish off. cheers

I just had a looksee at the dam RC - pretty nice little toy you got there, jealous I am. I can't see the problem you are talking about, seems OK to me. Does it smell?

Sounds like you've got everything you need. But are the shrimp big enough to eat, because yabbies would be good for the fish to eat, cleaning pond and for you to eat.

Still, I wish I had a dam like that. We've got a dry stream bed behind our house. Used to be fed by a spring further uphill and Tree Ferns (yes Tree Ferns) and Palms would flourish, but it dryed up a couple of years ago (thats what an older neighbour said). There are still a few 5-6m stumps of the ferns.

If it was still running, I would probably try to make a dam and stock it with small fish, yabbies and shrimp

Cow there is some say 4\"shrimp but it full of this 25mm small shrimp when you use a net you get shit loads and i mean shit heaps of gudgeons also well now the water is warming up

Wish I had the land and stream to set up a dam like that. Looks great. Are there any types of fish in there that would take a popper? Wouldn't get snagged up on the weed so much

I agree with Cowfish. Get some crays in there. They'll make short work of those goddamn lillies that get in the way.

Ray will not be doing that there is some in there get washed in look was built for fish if you know what the weed floating on the surface is what would help. cheers

don't put blue claw in if you value your dam. they're not called \"cherax destructor\" because they are helpful and nice. we lost a dam to yabbies- they riddled the earth dam wall with holes and when their was a downpour we lost it and all of our stocked yellas.
