Trout fishing NZ

At the moment I'm in NZ with with my family on a skiing holiday. After 4 days of skiing we decided to give today a break as the weather was very windy and there was a lot of snow. Last trip to Wanaka I spotted a nice little fishing and hunting shop so that seemed like a great place to go. I was starting to get a little desperate to go fishing so I quizzed the fishing staff on lures and techniques. We were going to rent some rods tomorrow but decided that we might as well buy 2 shimano telescopic travel rods. I tried mine out this arvo for a short 20 minute flick and they seem great for the price. After a few casts my drag was screaming and a nice rainbow trout was jumping over the surface, and after a few runs it was gone :pinch: Next cast the same thing happened but the very next cast I hooked up again to a rainbow but he stayed heavy and deep :woohoo:

Caught on an orange Tassie devil lure!

Released him straight away and he swam belly up so tapped him with the rod and off he swam! He was obviously just being sneaky and playing dead  Just before dark we could see the trout feeding off the surface! I didn't realise how much fun trout are! They sure give you a hit and a half  Fishing tomorrow so hopefully we will catch a few more. I've also been able to get a lot of gopro footage of trout in skinny rivers and lakes!

Awesome.

Trout are one of my favorite fish to catch.

You can modify your tassie devils to work better and catch more fish on them by pulling out the wire and cutting off the treble hook.

To use the lure just run your line through the body and tie the treble back on.

The wire heavily restricts the lures action.

You can also use them backwards and they will swim deeper that way if you are in depe enough water.

Have fun, there is some ripper trout over there.

Yeah, it's in Lake Wanaka just past the yacht club. We were skiing at Cardrona and the skiing was great with some big dumps of snow. My sister might be trying treble cone this arvo as for some reason she doesn't want to fish for the whole day! :silly:
