2013 Scotland Adventure...

(Sorry in advance for grammatical errors and typos, after 30 hours traveling home my head has not quite kicked back into gear yet).

Well I am back. Had such a good trip I cannot even begin to describe and managed some fishing as well. 4 little sessions to be exact. I could have had possibly more but my only beef with Scottish fishing is lack if information... It is all very localized and although there are plenty of places to fish, there are also plenty you cannot. Telling them apart can be almost impossible.

Anyway the three sessions I had were all rewarding with no donuts to be seen, which for totally new and strange terrain was pleasing. First session kicked off in a little stream off Loch Earn. Apparently a few rainbow trout had escaped a local fish fish and were plaguing the local brown trout purists (rainbows being of course from North America). Anyway any trout was a trout to me so I headed down with new Nordic Stage travel rod, stella 2500 and assortment of little P21 lures to give it a crack.

Water was stunning, clear and glassed and I was optimistic after seeing a few of what I assumed were "rises" from fish.

Within about 20 minutes of casting I was onto my first trout of the trip! One of the supposedly escapee rainbows...

You will have to excuse my timer pictures as I was fishing solo...

That was the end of that little session as dinner reservations were calling and the midgees were out in force (the only time they bothered me the whole trip thank god).

Next morning it was time to hit Loch Earn itself before heading into the central Highlands... This Loch (lake) is picturesque set in a small glacial valley in the Trossach's National Park. It is well stocked and can be fished in style for a small fee similar to a SIP (funds to go into stocking the lake with Brown Trout). It was good fun and accounted for my first Brown Trout for the trip (and ever). Just a little guy but it was great to get on the board!

Next fishing stop was a small stocked lake on a property we stayed in Glen Shee...

This little session saw two browns for me and my biggest for the trip only going just shy of 30cm's (sorry no whoppers in these smaller systems)...

The next morning I hit the little stream on the property which resulted in the most fish, but collectively all pretty small. I lost count a little bit but it was around 6 or 7 little browns...

All in all good fun and cannot wait to go back! I can post more scenery pictures if anyone is interested.

Cheers!

Nice bunch of Trout there Angus.

That first little Brown looks like a Lock Leven, they are great looking fish.

We used to catch a few down in some of the Snowy Lakes. They like to hang out at the mouth of the streams that enter the lakes.

Anyway looks like an awesome trip with some incredible scenery.

Excellent.

Love the pics. What sort of treatment/filter/program were you using?

Standard "dramatic" lense on the new camera...

Some pictures look washed out using it, however in some lights it is amazing. I took regular shots and filtered shots of some places and the difference was incredible. Basically it would prevent heavy glare making hill areas look silhouetted and and draw the colours out doing it far more justice...

hey gus,

Great trip by the looks of it.

I've got 3-4 weeks in scotland next June, the photos have given me a few different ideas about where to go, thanks for that. Any other places that you simply "must see" while you are there?

Cheers.

Benno

Wow great pics and look at the size of the tail on those small browns!

Looks like you caught the weather too, stunningly beautiful when you catch it right but I've spent a week there when it never stopped raining and you could almost reach up and touch the clouds. The closest thing to wild country the UK has to offer imo.

Thanks for sharing :)
