Lure Making

Hello all.

Well nearly a year ago I started a post regarding myself, a newbie high school teacher starting a new subject "Marine and Aquatic Practices" at my school. So far it has been (in the main) a great success, :woohoo: and if I can keep it that way I may just be able to start a junior Marine studies subject for Yr 10 next year, and introduce Senior Marine Studies the following year (which is an OP subject).

This will mean greater budget, better resources (including a boat), and most importantly education on sustainable rec fishing practices, and increased engagement to studies in a school which most students come from very low socio-economic backgrounds.

The plan is to show these kids that there is a way out, there is opportunities in life, and that they have opportunities to work in industries based around marine and aquatic environments.

Later this term I am teaching a unit on lure making. I am looking at making soft plastics to start (have to buy kits and/or make casts and "product test"), and I would love to get any information on useful techniques, websites, or product seller that you know of as I have absolutely no experience in this area. :S I am currently looking at purchasing some moulds, colours, plastic and glitter from "u make em" online.

If there is anyone out there that has experience making lures of any type I would love to hear from you and grab any tips, info and advice you may have. ;)

Thanks in advance

Andrew

I use the u-make-em soft plastic kits.

I found it to be pretty easy when I first started.

As for making molds I am keen to try and make a few out of ferrope (cast iron pipe expoxy)

I have started to make jig head molds out of it and it works great.

Its very pliable and sest rock hard so the soft plastic im guessing will come out smooth and shiny.

I would also be keen on hearing if anyone else has had good results from any other

As for the jig head molds, is the ferrope heat resistant for when the moulten lead is poured in.
