POB Naval Marine Exclusion zone. Sat am???

Hello,

I have been trying to find out what the berth of the US naval ship in BR means to boaties leaving from the river on Saturday morning to head out to Mud at about 3am.

I plan on launching at Colmslie as I am guessing the POB ramp will probably be closed. I heard something about a 500 metre exclusion zone, but when I checked here > http://www.msq.qld.gov.au/~/media/msqinternet/msqfiles/home/noticestomariners/2013/july/ntm535t2013.pdf all I could see was a 50m exclusion zone.

Of course a 500m exclusion zone would mean I would not be able to leave the river without risk of being blown up  . Can anyone who has launch and exited the river while a naval ship has been in port let me know what the deal is?

Cheers Andrew

Most of the ones i have driven past have been 150-200m exclusion. just give it a wide berth you will be fine, otherwise the speedy police boat will be on you in seconds yelling over a loudspeaker. Sometimes they even have markers set up so keep an eye out for them too.

It's all good to head out into the bay from the fishermans island....just head out into the bay on the other side of the river.

Worst case scenerio is that you will get a RIB drive very close beside you while you are going along passing the ship.

I'll post a video if you like of them travelling beside me. I think they only do it to stop you ramming the ship.

That would be cool! I am taking an old mate that I grew up fishing and camping with out who rarely has a chance to get on a boat.... Might have to "not say anything" just for a laugh in case I do get an escort

Yeah, that would be funny....you generally get one RIB that will follow you halfway down the ship and then he will part off and another one will escort you along the other half...just don't go slowly and hang around.

I'm trying to load the Video onto my youtube account and i've forgotten how to...i'll get it in a minute
