Wavebreak Island Social 2/3/4th of august

Next weekend we are holding a fishing social down at Wavebreak Island at Southport over the weekend starting Friday and finish Sunday. Most of us will stay the whole weekend along the northern beach of the Island in the Anchorage which is very well protected for the boats.

The fishing options are plenty with a good yabbie bank only a 100m away from where we will stay and the seaway only minutes way for the boats. Most of us will also try to get offshore if the weather allows us to try for snapper etc.

This social is open to everyone and this is a great chance to come and meet fello fisho's swap plenty of tips and tell some stories of the one's that either did or didn't get away. Bring a fold up chair for the beach fishing and kicking back after a day on the water.

I have been itching to get along to one of these things for a long time and have thought about camping along there before but am unfamiliar with that stretch of the coast.

I am due for a mental health day so if I can work something out for the boy count me in!

Come down for the weekend as we always have an incredible time.

Sat night we have a big cook up on the fire with chooks on the spit and often a leg of lamb in the camp oven, roast spuds and pumpkin, salads ect.

You can follow the other offshore boats out to the snapper grounds or fish the seaway for jews and then there's the entire broadwater to hang around in.

You will have a great time with a great bunch of guys.

Sounds like the plan, will know by Wednesday if the stars are aligning but should be fine. If the weather is good I know my boat is capable just have never gone through the seaway so would be good to follow someon out and get advice.

So do I chuck in dollars for the cookup or just bring a hunk of meat to sacrifice?

Bring a SMALL chook to sacrifice.

Keep the chook small to med size so they all cook at the same time on the spit.

Seaway is an easy one to cross unless there is a large swell running.

I always take my 14ft tinny over it without any problems but I am a bit mad as well when it comes to bar crossings. :P:P:P

Just north of the bar (about 4-5 mins drive) is a great cobia spot and only 2-3 mile straight out the front is some great snapper, kingy, trag and amberjack grounds as well as yellowfin and other tuna species.

Also still a chance of a spannish out there atm.

In the seaway itself is often great jew fishing on the tide changes which is what I often do on these weekends.

Sounds great, hopefully the stars align and the weather plays the game then! I was going to enter late and do the MBC but my son got sick so no fishing this weekend. Be good to finally meet other members and It would be nice to finally put a nice snapper on the deck or maybe catch my first amberjack or cobia!

That's what these weekends are about you most certainly can follow us out through the seaway and I'll show you a few good reefs out there. We'll need for the Saturday night cook up Chooks, Potatoes, Deserts, Garlic breads etc and everyone normally brings a little bit to add to the nights dinner.

We will have camp ovens and a couple of rotisseries for over the hot coals and if everyone could let us know what you will bring it will help with organising.

I will bring a small chook , garlic bead and a desert

The weather looks awesome for the weekend should be able to fish offshore anywhere even the smaller boats will be able to get out http://www.seabreeze.com.au/graphs/qld4.asp

It does look great! Unfortunately I can't squeeze an EPIRB into this weeks budget so unless there are some good spots less than 2nm from shore I will have to stay inside :(

There is plenty of heavy reef areas inside 2nm just out from the Seaway.

Are you after a non gps or gps epirb.

I may be able to help you out for the weekend if you want to go offshore outside 2nm.

Hi guys, rathabfishin2 (Andrew) has been kind enough to offer me a deckie spot this weekend for a fish. He advised me to put a post up here to find out what I need to bring along in terms of food or drinks?

As I never been to one of these, please help me out by letting me know what I need to bring for this weekend trip, for example plate, fork, etc.

With the type of fish that we are targeting, I am keen to use Soft Plastics or HB lures, so any tips on these as well.

One last thing, I have injured my left arm but seeing my physio tomorrow night to see if it is ok to go fishing this weekend.

Well to start thank you Lance who has opened up more than 2nm for me offshore on sunday if the current forecast holds.

I now have my first BFO deckie, and just want to nut out a few things. Firstly what cooking and camping gear should I bring? I don't want to bring anything that's not needed to save space but if I have anything that's lacking I am happy to bring it along.

Do I need to bring a tent or will a swag suffice (thinking same flies and mozzies shouldnt be a problem).

Will def bring camp chair, swag, maybe tent

In regards to gas stove, gas light, gazebo are these thingsthat the group would want me to bring? What cooking stuff is needed or has that already been sorted?

I only have the 4.2 so trying to keep it light ;)

We are having a cook up on Saturday night if you wish to join in on that bring a small frozen chook along say around 1.5 kilo and maybe a garlic bread I think we should have the rest covered. There will be camp ovens, 3 rotisseries and a bbq to use so bring what ever else you wish to eat for the other meals.

Teckee7 Are you staying Friday and Saturday nights?

We are camping so you need all of your normal camping gear.

Saturday night we have a community feast cooked on the fire which is usually chooks cooks on the spits and leg of lamb in the camp ovens.

Everyone chips in some food for this Sat night cook up.

Most guys bring a small chook for the spit or if you want to do something else let us know what you would like to do.

You need to supply all your own meals and drinks for the rest of your stay.

Fishing wise you have plenty of options offshore and the weathers looking superb.

SP's work a treat on the reefs for snapper, kings, amberjack and a host of other species.

Lots of Tuna around as well out there and maybe the off Mackeral and Cobia.

You also have the Seaway and the entire Broadwater and Jumpinpin to play around in.

We will have a tarp setup so you won't need the Gazebo.

Swags are perfect on the island as well, plenty of guys use them.

You will need your cooking gear and eating utensils, ect but I will have my gas stove there and so will Mark so you are welcome to use either of those if you want to save bringing that extra gear.

As tekkee said still workingout arrival. Probably sat morning early however that depends on how work goes this week and how I feel Friday afternoon. If I have the energy and can sort something out for my son Friday night I am keen as that opens a dawn fish for Saturday!

Looking forward to this!

Change of plans. I will probably take the boat to school and leave Ipswich at around 3-4 pm Friday. Tekee had to pull out due to injury so if anyone wants a decky spot let me know. On Saturday my mother, son and brother will be down the coast so late morning to lunch I may duck off to take them from a family cruise around the Broadwater for a couple of hours.

PM me if interested and we will go from there.

Cheers Andrew
