Cross X Country Boats Build and Ride Quality

Gday All,

New Member/Long time reader. A quick one, Has anyone out there tried or become an owner of the Cross X Country boats since they have changed owners. As i understand there where question marks over the build quality under the previous owner. Have these issues now been resolved? Also, are they corky when you are fishing from them under anchor?

I am looking at the 4.3 or 4.75 but leaning more to the 4.75, however, not sure how it would go as a tiler steer.

If anyone has any thoughts/suggestion on the topic, especially owners, it would be greatly appreciated.

cheers

Chriso

G'day mate and welcome.

Shoot Sweresy a PM. He's taken delivery of a 4.3 recently (tiller) and loves it.

As I've been out in it several times, I can attest to the quality of the craft.

Keep an eye out for a review in an upcoming edition of a favourite fishing mag. ;)

BTW,

How does tehe 4.3 go on offshore reefs (sunshine coast etc?) i wont to have the option to fish these which is the reason for looking at the 4.75?

Cheers

Should not be a problem if you pick a good day and know what you are doing. I have fished as far out as 30k offshore from brunswick heads in my 4.3.. but the 4.75 would be a lot better suited for the task.

Im just about to finalise the finance side of things then we are go :woohoo: . Going the 4.3 as a tiller stear with a 40 Suzi on the back. They are not cheap, but i am getting a custom fishing boat in the end, which should put me everywhere i want to fish (except the Barwon banks, if i need that fix ill jump on a charter). It also saves me from upgrading my car (only have a Corolla so cannot toe anything big) which saves me a fair bit of $$. Took one for a test drive and a 20hp pushed it along, however it was very calm so cannot talk about how they handle chop. The Corolla towed it very nicely and i will be able to push it up the driveway (they are ridiculously light) which helps with the narrow driveway.

I have asked around and not herd anything bad about them, just the recommendation not to go a side console as they tip a bit. A few mates has some concerns about them being corky, however, no one can validate those concerns as yet. I spoke to a few blokes who were driving there's (DUNUP) out the door as a few days after they bought is and they were out at Caloundra 12 mile at the time. They were pretty happy with it.

There are a few peopl on this chat with them so keep an eye out. Apparently they will be reviewed in a fishin mag in the near future.

Cheers

Thanks for update mate. I do 70% bay work and 30% estuary stuff but would go out a bit further on a good day so the 4.3 sounds a like a go. You said you was leaning towards to 4.75m do you mind I ask is that cost to turn you to 4.3? Because its hard to find price on the Internet and I have sent them email but I haven't got it back yet. Congrats for your new beauty that is good pick up.

Hey mate looked at these boats before buying mine..

They are built really well. So light. . And strong and they plain with a lot smaller motor then youd think.. the owner was happy to take me for a run so I'd imagine he'd do it for anyone..

They showed exactly every step how they make them.. quite an amazing company..

id have bought one if I wasnt scared of breaking fibre glass. Cant swim that well.. I more flap around as the old gut doesnt do anything for aerodynamics in the water ;)

Hi MATE

Well done! Its an awesome bit of kit! Unfortunatley my budget is 14K tops and even then I had to beg and plead with the missus...get down on my hands and knees and kiss butt! :S

I so wanted to the 4.3 crossxcountry but in the end I had to settle on a tinnie! Everytime a crossxcountry blows by me I will be smiling through gritted teeth.

Have fun!

Hi Chrisso

Sorry to hijack ya post but I picked up my boat on the weekend and took it for a spin at Lake Lenthall.

I am very, very impressed at the stability at rest of this little rig. I had my brother in law who is a very nuggety 120kg BAFOONING around the boat and at no time did I nearly end up in the drink.

I will admit the 25hp Yammy goes ok but if it was my build I would have gone a 40 but price is always the consideration and the 25hp gets her up on the plane and skipping along nicley.

My boat was number 9 out the factory, the finish on the inside of the boat is not as neat as yours will be but none the less everything is neat and tidy, the guy I purchased it from was maticulous about everything!!! its so clean!

Im pretty stoked!

Can't wait to see yours!

Bryan

No mine was the original boat builder I think his name was Tyson, the ex owner new him very well and admitted that the finish on the original boats was substandard. It does reflect in the finish on the inside of the walls, this is because they used flat panel construction rather than moulded panels now. This doesn't bother me too much as I inspected every square inch and everything looked rock solid.

I can't complain too much as replacement value on this boat has to be at least 20k and the price I paid was good value.
