Gday All,

Im at the pointy end of buying a boat and am trying to decidewhich way to go. Im getting a 4.3m light glass boat with a 40 and trying to decide which way to go. Any thoughts would be appriciated, especially with anyone who has used a side stear jobby.

Cheers

Chris

I have a stessco renegade 452 side console. it does everything i need it to do and with plenty of room to drag my ugly butt around. very stable boat, good turn of speed with the yamaha 60hp 4 stroke. good fuel economy. lots of storage. i would say the only down side for me is it is a wet boat, when it rains i get wet. very little spray over the bow even in 20knt chop. very happy with the side console

If you were looking at buying a larger beamier boat then i would suggest either a centre or side console but the boat you are looking at is quite narrow in the beam and is weight sensitive and having previously owned one with a side console i would suggest a centre console or tiller steer. I had to sell mine earlier in the year due to circumstances and had the intention of purchasing another one when my finances allowed, i am now in the position to purchase another boat again but have recently taken a friend of a friends 4.5m bluefin side console for a good run in less than ideal conditions and have changed my mind, it was heaps more comfortable, more stable and had heaps more room. My children even told me that it was heaps more comfortable for them, and that in itself is good enough for me. Just food for thought.
