Drag pressure on a TSS4

Gday all,

Does anyone have any idea of the drag pressure you can put on a shimano TSS4? Want to know is its appropriate for throwing poppers/trolling

Definitely adequate for trolling for mackerel etc. and a lot of TSS4's are used this way.

Pretty sure max drag is 10kg. It might be adequate for popping but not if you are chasing the really big GT's around rough country.

Its not really designed for casting braid either. It will probably work ok but you could have problems.

For an entry level popping reel I would look at a shimano saragosa or a daiwa saltist.

As a starting point for setting your drags,they should be set at 1/3 the breaking strain of your main line.

This is done using a set of scales.

After a while you get used to how hard the drag gets set and you can just adjust it without using scales.
