ribbon fish/wolf herring?

Wanting to gear up for some trolling next time I head out. Does anyone know where I can buy wolf herring frozen? Or the next best thing?

Next best thing down here is garfish. Not likely to see wolf herring except maybe at Luc's seafoods down here in brisbane.

I haven't encountered them south of Yeppoon.

The odd shop may stock 'em though. I think you're gonna have to ring around mate.

I have one in my freezer but not for sale. Waiting for the right day to upgrade.

upgrade your freezer or your herring? Sounds like an elusive bait....I have found gars but not much meat on em...The slimy macks are quite small. A whole bonito is quite large but i want to attach it to a chin weight and ganged hooks so not too sure given a wolf is much more streamlined,,,I do still have a good size chunk of the hairtale pictured in the freezer. I couldn't eat it all and thought one day it may be useful given its so shiny.

So! If wolfie is off the menu what would be your next step besides the gar? The gar are about 8" long and very slim. Given im sunning 9/0 gang hooks that leaves about one hook in the fish after the weighted section.

Lucs seafood might have large slimies, i have got them up to 40cm from him.

Upgrade the herring to a spaniard or hoo. I keep all bonito for trolling as well. Gar are a good bait trolled under a skirt.

Ill resist the temptation about fish and skirts?? Went to local shop and they said they dont get them and if they do not many. Marlin season is starting soon up North and they all want them. He can hopefully get large gar (4x2) so that should do the job.
