What a spectacular spot of weather this morning! Took the opportunity to try out soft plastics for the first time and headed over to Curtain at 4am to be back home by 10am.

I have found that I suck at plastics fishing.....lots more practice required.

On the plus side, I had bait as a back up plan, so between the 2 of us we boated 14 fish including snapper, perch, various reefies and a first for me which was a bat fish I think.

We kept a snapper each and everything else went back for next time.

My mate has a pic of the bat fish on his camera, so I'll post it when he sends it to me.

Sounds like a pretty good little session. Any size to the snaps ?

Bat fish are pretty common at Curtain, so good chance that's what it is.

The snaps were all between 33 and 40cm. I think the bigger ones have moved out in to deeper water now.

do batfish fight hard. Ive seen some monsters up cairns way on the reefs always thought theyd bee a good sportfish on 10lb

Ha ha, you're hilarious Callum!

It did fight fairly hard and took a couple of runs. I was using 50lb braid but had my drag set to suit 20lb. More like the thumps you get from a shark. None of the quick tail flicks you get from other fish.

You'd certainly have lots of fun on 10lb. :-)
