I didn't have time before to research it.

This is taken from the site
/>http://www.msq.qld.gov.au/Safety/Life-jackets.aspx

For use in smooth, partially smooth and open waters

•To comply with Australian Standard 4758 it must be marked 'Level 100', 'Level 150' or 'Level 275'.

•To comply with Australian Standard 1512–1996 it must be marked 'PFD type 1'.

•Not to be used by personal watercraft (PWC) riders, skiers or people being towed.

Q. Can a coastal life jacket be an inflatable?

A. Yes, under National Standard for Commercial Vessels C 7A a coastal lifejacket is a lifejacket that complies with AS 4758.1 – Level 150, ISO 12402-3 –Level 150 or BS EN 396. These standards all provide for inflatable lifejackets. Remember, there are servicing requirements for inflatable coastal lifejackets.

By my reading they are fine as a PFD 3.

Disclaimer:

I take no responsibility if these life jackets are suitable or indeed legal for your intended use.

Check it out yourself.

I did think so, but a quick look and I think your right, 150 is mentioned as being the equivalent of the old PFD1 on one site, as being better than the old PFD1 on another, with 100 as the equivalent of the old PFD1 category.

This site seems to be the least confusing, albeit still eye bulging.

Yes that site makes it a bit clearer.

•Level 150 – a new level of PFD and suitable for offshore use

•Level 100 – similar to PFD Type 1 and the minimum requirement for offshore use

•Level 50 – similar to PFD Type 2

•Level 50S (Special Purpose) – similar to PFD Type 3

So its a PFD 1 equivalent.

Good price.

I do have some PFD inflatables but are way out of date. Now I just carry the cheap foam ones that never leak ;)
