I headed out to Boondooma for a few days last week on my annual camping trip. The group I go with mostly water ski and mingle amongst their caravans and tents, but only the fishing interests me! The weather was pretty good, but a bit too windy to be out in the kayak. Each session, I tried to get out to sheltered spots before the skiers and wind picked up, but that still left the problem of getting back across the lake! The wind made it a struggle, and the skiers.....I just don't understand why it's a game for them to try and make life hard for kayaks and smaller vessels. The waves they create are pretty scary, especially when one crashes right on top of the yak, filling it with water and almost tipping you out. Ah well, I managed to survive

Every day, there was plenty of activity at the fish cleaning table. So many Yellowbelly carcasses in the bins! Even saw Starlo come back in to the ramp while I was launching my yak. I thought about offering him some tips, but didn't

Out on the water, my sounders showed a mountain of bait and bigger fish everywhere I went, but catching the blighters was another thing. Sometimes I'd pick up a fish trolling in the middle of nowhere, and then find a spot with lots of activity on the sounder for nothing. Usually though, the fish were around structure, or the good old rocky point/drop off

Last year, the water was coffee brown, and I found the only way to catch fish on lures was to use anything noisy or with a vibration. This year, the water was cleaner, but the same lures were needed. Spinnerbaits and Jackall TN-60's were my standout performers.

Here's some of the fishes I met. I never thought I'd catch so many more Yella's than Bass!

Sounds like a great trip Luke.

Ski Lice and any form of fishing dont mix, best of finding some sticks etc where they are not game to go (for some reason.....)

It's a great trip away for a few days, camping or staying in one of the cabins.

By best success with goldens is casting spinerbaits at rocky shoreline and slowly winding them to deep water with the ocassional stop to let them sink deeper.
