260lb catfish caught in Italy

This colossal catfish was caught by Italian angler Dino Ferrari from the River Po Northern Italy.

It measured an incredible 8.6 feet (259cm) and weighed a staggering 260lb making it one of the largest catfish ever landed in Europe. Dino, who fishes for German tackle firm Team Sportex, has plenty of experience of fishing the Po having landed numerous other cats over 200lb from the waterway. However, the huge fish is still some way short of the official IGFA record, which is a whopping 297lb 9oz cat landed by Hungarian angler Zsedely Attila back in 2011.

Can you imagine taking a dip and having that beast swim past you!!!! I saw one swimming under a chateaux that stretched out over the water in France and was mesmerised (almost made us miss our bus ......) as in came in and out of view. It was in shadowy water so just appeared as a dark silhouette and looked like a massive cobia - from memory probably a good 6ft long but nowhere near the size of this beast!!!
