Hello another report from today at Cabbage Tree Creek.

I left home at 9.30am and stopped in at sandgate bait shop and bought a packet of live bloodworms, then headed off to Baxters Jetty at Shorncliffe. The conditions were a falling tide, a light NNE wind and it was fine and sunny.

When i got there, there was a crowd on the jetty as usual but other then that there was nobody there fishing. I walked down halfway between the jettty and boat harbour. The setup i was using was a cheap graphite 6'6 2kg - 4kg spin rod with a shimano sienna 1000 spin reel loaded with 3lb braid line. The rig i was using was a sz2 ball sinker running onto a sz12 swivel then 50cm of 4lb fluoro leader and mustad fineworm sz4 hook.

My first cast i felt a viscous tap, tap, tap then the rod pulled sharply towards water, i lifted the rod and the line instantly screamed off the reel for about a second as i was reeling the fish in it was making some hard quick headshakes with some splashes on the surface but got it in no trouble. When i landed it, i was very surprised as it was a moses perch about 17cm long which got its photo taken and went back.

I kept fishing until 11.30am and all up i caught 8 bream that were 10cm - 15cm so quite small, a tiny sand whiting, moses perch, + a 18cm sand whiting that was fun on a loose drag.

ive always found that spot to be full of fish...but finding legal fish is the hard part. lots of small stuff there.

around the corner a bit where the trawlers dock can sometimes produce some bigger fish.

well done mate

Thanks Chris. I have only fished there a half a dozen times and have always got heaps of small fish never a donut, so the river must be going strong and the nursery/green zone in nundah creek is doing more good then bad.

I will try around the trawler dock sometime soon (was going to try there yesterday but changed my mind), it does seem good and i think it will be worth a go.
