Looking for a sandy land based area to fish

It's been 5 years or so since I've done any real fishing. Picked myself up a rod etc this week and want to find somewhere to chase some flathead and get back into the swing of things. Is there anywhere around Logan or within an hour or so to do this?

Plenty of areas to choose from, including (but not limited to) Brisbane Bayside foreshores (Wynnum, Manly, Lota), Tingalpa Creek, Wellington & Victoria Pts, Redland Bay, Cabbage Tree Creek ramp area and Jacobs Well ramp area.  In addition the creeks/rivers down the Gold Coast would be well worth trying - if you pick up a copy of this months Bush n Beach ($3.95 - BARGAIN!!) resident guru of all things piscatorial, Wayne Young (@youngy on this site), has outlined a few good landbased spots for whiting in the Nerang River and Broadbeach.

It would also be well worth your while reading the latest post by Daryl McPhee http://www.australianfishing.com.au/forum/topic/46155-land-based-in-the-nerang-river/#comment-995385 who excels at landbased fishing (and always wisely reminds people that you don't need a boat to catch a feed of fish). It would also be worthwhile reading other posts by him to get an idea of what can be caught, roughly where and what bait, etc.

Good luck - let us know how you go.

Hello Nitty. kmcrosby78 answered the question very well, but I thought I might add something to the thread as well.

Around logan within an hour there is heaps of sandy places to fish to the point it gets overwhelming where to go! But if I lived down there I would driving to the Nerang or Coomera rivers to fish for xos sand whiting at this time of year as well as reading up on the lastest Bush n Beach which only costs $3.95. But the whiting techniques I use is pretty easy: the rig; sz2 or sz3 ball running onto a sz12 brass swivel then about 1.2m of 4lb fluoro leader and a sz4 shorter shank worm hook (personally use Gamakatsu Worm) and bait of choice is bloodworms, and I cast my baits onto the channel/drop off edge and let them drift around with the tide for a cruising fish to pick up, I also hold my rod (as some bites are very subtle) and have a loose drag to avoid bust offs and have more fun. But these techniques are universal (general purpose) and may be slightly different down that way.

But if you are keen to catch flathead go to Jacobs well where you fished and try it on the top of the falling tide when the bait gets dragged from the top of the flats and the flathead wait to ambush the bait and use a fish strip bait (mullet, pilchard, or even pike that you may get as bycatch) or alternatively try fishing down the GC around the broadwater sand banks where I have heard/read there is heaps of flatties (small & big).

Hope this help, it seems to be working for me these techniques. Good Luck :)
