Squid fishing

Mate Manly harbour is always worth a try.

Just bare in mind now is not the best season.

There maybe a chance at getting a few but they fire up in the cooler months.

They also love clear water which is one hypothesis I have heard as to why they shut down a bit around this time of year. Lots of wind make the bay a bit more turbid and the water loses clarity. You can still often find them on the inside of Moreton and Straddy around now (my best session was actually Australia Day) but the Western Bay does seem to go murkier.

I was very surprised to have one attack my green prawn head bait today on the Wynnum foreshores whilst having a quick flick with my young son. Unfortunately we couldn't hook it but it stayed sucking on it right up to within about 6ft of us - just out of netting range ........ A squid jig is going into the 'fishing with young son' kit!!!! Was still very cool to see as I haven't fished for squid much and not for years and my young fella thought it was cool. The squid was a decent size too.

I thought the jetty at Manly was off limits to fishing now? If so bit of a shame as many decent fish have been landed there over the years.

Almost certain it is (at least it was last time I checked/heard) however you can fish from the surrounding rockwalls (near the harbour entrance as well as along the esplanade casting out towards the moored boats). I haven't done this yet but always marvel at how great the water looks as we drive past ........ perhaps I should ....
