Fishing yesterday in the Brisbane River and caught this beast 1.8m and 10kg

I'm trying to remember what creek mouth you're standing at. That is a monster of a pike. Plenty of bait all round now!

I've only caught smaller ones (up to 80cm) and they display spectacular aerial acrobatics and often bite you off. Terrible eating but excellent bait!

I'm keen to hear what the OP says that whopper played out like!

Fought pretty hard but heavy tackle, 30lb braid 60ib leader

Goods size, I've caught them that big in the pine targeting sharks.

Very angry fish, I don't even bother getting my hooks back anymore.

ive always found them to be a lazy fighting fish for their size, great shark bait though

Had (what i think) was the one Eel stealing all of my Mullet baits when i was fishing for Bullies when staying on the Bribie Canals over Christmas. Caught him 3 separate times and he stole at least 5 more of my baits without hooking up (over 2 days). If it wasn't the one Eel then there are a lot of HUGE Pike Eels in there. He/they wasn't too far from the size of the one in this report. Evil looking things, quick snip of the line as close to the teeth as I was willing to go and straight back in.

Should have cut him up for shark bait but felt bad as I probably would have only used about a 20th of him.

I reckon you are spot on, Brad. I also reckon there would be snakes in that grass track there that would make that eel look like a garden worm.

Yeah I used to live at yeronga and check that place out a bit. Huge pike eel.

Stinky things that steal baits meant for decent fish. Trade it up for mud crabs, perfect crab bait.

Best thing for Pike Eels is crab bait or shark bait. They are annoying things!!! but everything has a place in the food chain.

Caught one last month in Logan River Eagleby a real biggin. Good fun.
