A group of us from the Brisbane Fly Fishing Club went down to Ben's Falls Retreat last weekend. We saw a segment on it Creek To Coast a while back and looked great.

This place is not great, but awesome. 4WD access only to the cabins, but you have the whole property to yourself. We covered about 7klms of Severn River over the three days. About 24 Cod caught amongst 7 blokes....all on fly.

 

I only used my 5wt after the first day justto see how it would go.  Caught five cod, all on Bass flies  Biggest 66cm.

 

Saturday night was a lovely cool -4C

That is a fantastic property to stay on.

There is a ton of cod in there, especially when it warms up.

About to do the same .....Might be a good place for a few AFOers to catch up ......    Thanks for sharing Norm and great work on the captures. Were you canoeing/kayaking or landbased?

Upon 10 more seconds thought I'm assuming landbased ...... did you drive to different sections of the river?

When we stayed there Kelvin, it was $100 a night for up to 8 people.

You can start catching cod right in front of the cabin with a lot of walkable fishing right from the cabin. You can also go for a drive to other parts and walk from there.

It is a very cheap trip with a few guys and the cabins are rustic but good with everything in them.

Looks like a great setup Lance and good price too. Already sent an email regarding it to my 3 brothers and would say we'll have a family catch up there at some stage.

We took kayaks and float tubes, but only used them in the front of the cabin (long pool). Too long portages otherwise. As @aussie123 said you can drive to other parts and fish. This place is perfect for you lazy lure types, no need for room for a backcast . Having said that we did score some fish just by jigging the fly at our feet. Can't wait to get back there in summer for surface action. Only got one boof on a surface fly.
