Mantou Steamed Buns!

Recommended Posts

Have been wanting to make Mantou for a while now and today finally got around to it.

With the dough I made Vietnamese Bao Buns and Cantonese BBQ Pork Buns.

Bao: slow poached chicken in masterstock, sweet pickled carrot and red onion, salad leaves, cucumber, green apple, sticky soy reduction and Japanese Mayo all inside the softest fluffiest moist Bao.

BBQ Pork Buns: same dough, Cantonese roasted pork, sweet BBQ sauce (Shaoxing wine, 5 spice, sweet chilli sauce, tamari, molasses, ket manis, fish sauce, oyster sauce).

Yum!

Bahahaha. BBQ Pork Bun and Bao Bun.

Amazing place at West End 'Chop Chop Changs' who do 2 small Bao for $10 (usually a pork belly!) and BBQ Pork Buns are a Yum Cha staple!!

I could make a stack and bring them but they need to be eaten straight out of the steamer... Although it would be easy enough to put a pot and steamer on the BBQ :)
