Wow, a good day of cricket missed by me, but good result. We may not need to bat again if they keep scoring quickly

BoM`s thoughts on the matter.....

Perth area  Sunday: Showers. Possible late storm Possible rainfall: 8 to 20 mm .  Cloudy. Very high (95%) chance of showers, most likely late this afternoon and evening.

Perth area  Monday: Possible morning storm. Showers.  Possible rainfall: 4-10 mm. Cloudy. Very high (95%) chance of showers, most likely in the morning and early afternoon. The chance of a squally thunderstorm in the early morning.

Here a list of the records Smith set with his knock of 229 unbeaten on day three:

Smith’s haul of 5786 test runs (at the time he was 229 not out) gave him the most test runs across any other batsman in cricket in their first 108 test innings. Sir Garfield Sobers previously held the record. Sir Donald Bradman only played 52 tests.

He bettered his own previous high score in test cricket when he topped his knock of 215 against England at Lord’s in 2015.

He is just the fourth player to score multiple double hundreds in Ashes tests.

Smith brought up his 22nd test hundred in the third fewest number of innings out of every batsman in test cricket. Smith scored his 22nd Test century in just 108 innings, quicker than Sachin Tendulkar’s (114). Only Sir Donald Bradman (58) and Sunil Gavaskar (101) have scored 22 Test hundreds in fewer innings than the Aussie skipper.

Smith has now scored 1000 runs in four straight calendar years — becoming just the second batsman ever to achieve such a streak. Matthew Hayden is the only other batsman to do it when he went five straight years with more than 1000 runs from 2001-05.

Smith’s innings set a new record for the most runs scored by an Aussie against England at the Waca when he eclipsed Ian Redpath’s score of 171 in 1970.

Smith became the second-quickest Aussie batsman to reach 22 test hundreds.

Day 4....  remainder of day 4, play abandoned due to rain

Poms 4/132. :ausflag:       last wicket fell 4-100

BoM`s forecast:

Perth area Monday. Possible morning storm. Showers. possible rainfall 6-15 mm. Cloudy. Very high (90%) chance of showers, most likely in the morning. The chance of a thunderstorm in the morning. Damaging winds possible in the morning. Winds westerly 30 to 45 km/h turning southwesterly 35 to 45 km/h in the late morning then decreasing to 25 to 35 km/h in the late afternoon.

With that forecast if the Poms can bat out the dry periods it will be their greatest Ashes WACA non -win ever.:P

Good updates @Gad, but you neglected to mention a highlight of the day, Stuart Broad's unbeaten (or is that uninterrupted .......) 142 with the ball .............  .... (poor bloke must LOVE Australia .. ). Presuming they'll start play earlier tomorrow if weather allows - roughly how much time did they lose this evening? Hopefully there's enough playtime tomorrow to rip through them!!

you`re starting to come over as very trying again, Kelvin;) . especially over a Pom… :P

so, just for you :):

'Kelvin`s highlight of the day'.... Broad excelled himself on the WACA once again :D with his 0-142 bowling figure, this out did his previous best of 0-128, at the WACA 4 years ago.

under an hour lost, called of at 5.10 pm local time. yes, match should (?) start 30-45 mins earlier today .

Can not see them (depending how the rule is written) thinking of adding the lost time on the end of the day (if needed) because of the forecast of more rain and the possibility of failing light conditions that may go with the rain?

Day 5

:ausflag: Aus reclaims ASHES 3/0 :ausflag:

2 hour rain delay till play started today. Tea Break was delayed to see if there could be a result! There was!

Poms all out 218.   Lost last 6 wickets for 86 today.

Aus win by an innings and 41 runs

Hazlewood 5/48

end Day 2

9 wickets fell today, unfortunately 7 were Aussies with no tail wagging.

Aus all out  327 (119 overs)

Poms 2/192  (57.0 overs)   trail Aus 1st innings by 135

Cooks sizzling on 103 n/o and Joe Roots on 49 n/o

Lyon picked up the early break through, with a good bowl and caught with Poms on 35, Hazelwood picked up his wicket with the Poms on 80.

With a stomach bug, Cummins was mostly firing (no energy, at all) blanks.  Hopefully he`s firing on all cylinders first up tomorrow.

Momentum with the Poms by a smile, at the moment. With the pitch drying out quickly and a small amount of turn showing up today, hopefully the Aus bowlers get their line, length, speed and swing working straight out of the gates in the morning to put life into this test.

stupid poms doing well...

Ashes are gone, Pom bowlers and batters have to show their selectors something for team spots for 2018. They looked OK, with Starc out, Bird filling in for Starc, and Cummins not firing today.

Bird should work it out for Day 3, Cummins should be OK and with an improving wicket, Lyons will come out with a re-worked  game plan. (sounds good!)

well, what can be said….

after 3 struggling test loses, and having lost the cherished remains in the elaborate wooden egg cup 3/0, the Poms should be blood and urine tested ….. or

The Poms have discovered their real form and the Aussies are lucky this isn`t the first test of the Ashes series.…..  or

Starc out. Cummins drained from delhi belly. Neither Hazelwood nor Bird able to step up and take on the bowling leadership role, Lyon (although credit given, he took his 3 wickets) turned up and followed the fast bowlers 4th test plan of ‘the one plan fits all’ plan.

Smith with delhi belly (also), found himself with no effective bowling and therefore no fielding attacking plan with which to put any pressure on the Pommy batting line up, but feeling lucky 1 maybe 2 given outs were in fact wrong calls. ..... or

Good on the Poms, they`ve bowled and batted well with what has been served up to them . Cook is excelling against the bowling attack, their middle order has put in and their tail is wagging :) …..   WTF, I still dislike the Bloo`s

end Day five

Fourth Test ends in a draw.   Australia finishes on 4-263.

Smith 102  n/o   M.Marsh 29  n/o

about 20 minutes after Smith made his century, and with Australia only battinging out time, a lead of 95, Smith and Root decided valuable drinking time was being wasted ;) shook hands and the game was over.
