queensland Fishing Plan & Report - Northern Moreton Bay Saturday 18 August 2018

TGIF everyone! 

Thought I would change from a post report to a plan and report in one post (hope this works. 

Weather is looking bloody awesome tomorrow morning for my 2nd attempt at getting out of the bay and onto to some reef. 

Still feeling conservative re fuel consumption so not planning on going all the way to Flinders / Hutchies or Tempest just yet, but think going a bit further than last week should be okay. 

So the plan is leave Scarborough around 6ish (sorry deckie is a late riser) and head straight out and fish around the deeper areas of Comby point and find some good marks for rock to build up some knowledge. 

Question: is it safe to navigate from the point around to Yellow Patch? 

Any other ideas please let me know

With tomorrows wind and tide your will be fine heading to that area,  It can stand up with a run in tide and solid westerly blowing,

But I would not be worried with the wind forecast,

Quite easy to  see the deeper water when getting close to Comby Pt  and coming into the inner freeman channel,   once in mate its pretty safe, try not to hug the northern part of island too much .

I'm hoping to be leaving Scarborough  at 6am myself ,go  jig some bait then heading offshore around the Cape,  You may see me in your travels.

Yep comby point can get very washy. Have a great trip mate. I hope you get a feed. You deserve it. Dont be afraid to float out a pilly under a baloon. There are plenty of spanish mackerel around. Wire trace.

Well...good news is that I pushed through the nervousness and ended up making it out to Hutchies and Flinders...easy! 

Kind of sad news is that didn't catch anything of mention at all...but it was well worth the effort and by the looks of the other boats no one else was either. 

It was a good experience to finally get some distance on the boat and fish outside of Moreton Bay. 

Now the skill is finding the spots and the best methods. Silly me just thought I would do a combination of bottom bouncing with paternoster or running ball sinker to swivel. Bait used was fresh fillet of bait fish, frozen squid or pillies

Did about 110km and did about 50l of fuel - although will wait to fill it up to make sure. 

Ride back I was pretty good to in that 15kt ... so glad I took everyone's advice and went with glass...so smooth

How did everyone else go? @Cobiaaddict only saw your post after I got back! Would have loved to tag along for a bit... 

Next weekend is looking a bit sketchy but would love to get out again...might do a Brisbane river session instead.

Great news you went outside! Hopefully it is the boost needed for your confidence in the boat. 

I went out in the bay to lay my grandfather to rest at Green. After that we wet a line at the Rous but in the short time we had only got a few.

Didnt end up going @Poddymullet ended up indoor rock climbing with the kids. 

Good on you for getting out to Hutchies and Flinders.. now the exploring can start.  Your Fuel usage sounds pretty good.

@demarc that sounds like a great send off...would love to go that way to be honest...down with all the fish. Nice shots too...buggered if I know what that thing is ... maybe sea cucumber?

@Cobiaaddict bugger...next time be good to head out with a few...did you go to the North Lakes centre? That one is pretty good. Still need to check the final fuel amount ... as I think it might have been a bit understated

My son climbed the one on bounday rd. In Deception Bay. He loved it..  your fuel figures seem pretty accurate . My Surtees uses roughly that with a 115hp yammy getting  2.2-2-4km per ltr range.

Yeah I have heard they are better than Coral Trout but can be a bit tough so best to strap them to the boat trailer tyre on the way home to tenderise them just right
