I just received an email for a special on Stren braid. I’ve used Stren before and it’s been great. I haven’t used this type but for $3 l bought a couple of spools for bass fishing.

Looks like a nice reel. Although once Javis Walker got hold of Fin-nor l don’t believe it is the same quality the name was built on.

Personly l like the Shimano Talica range . I fine them light in the hand with a good drag system. Can use a smaller size reel with braid top shot with mono for the stretch.

At the end of the season can take the top shot off and jig with the reel. Making it multipurpose all year round reel.

Ok i will have a look at them today. I am going to Cooporoo Tackle Warehouse. Have shopped there for years and years and like to support a local business. What size Talica do you like for towing lures?

I have a Talica 12 single speed.

The reason l went a single speed is the species l’m chasing are high water fast fish in most cases. So if they turn and come back towards the boat you need to pick up the line quick. If you had clicked into slow speed you risk loosing the fish with slack line while changing back to high speed. IMO a 2 speed reel is more expensive, more things to go wrong.

They have their advantages if you fishing for huge tuna that fight deep. Can click to low gear and start getting some line back.

Personal preference as usual, there is no wrong way to set up, just what you are comfortable with.

Last time I was at our local ALDI they still had spools of their cheap braid for $9.95 which is the same price as the shipping for the fishing tackle store.  Not sure which is better quality but good to know there are some cheap options available.

I bought a reel today...
