What Are You Up To?

Soooo... that time of year when a fat man tries to slide down the chimney only to work out we all have modern houses and fireplaces are a thing of the past.  Besides, the last thing you want is @ellicat creeping around your roof on Xmas eve stealing your cherry ripes and any other chocolate not nailed down.

Interested to hear what plans people have for the festive period.  I have ~2 weeks forced leave from work so figured I might as well do something fun, as such, I have a bit of a little roadtrip planned, kicking off at sparrows this Saturday.

Brisbane -> Barrington Tops -> Jindabyne -> Top of Kozzi -> Vic high country -> (maybe) Wilson's Prom -> Brisbane.

Looking to take any opportunity to try and land my first aussie trout along the way, may be able to sneak in a beach or estuary fish on the way back home depending on where the trip goes.  Feels weird only packing one rod for such a trip but I have come to terms with it in my head... i think...  i have about 30 hard bodies and 15 packets of plastics to make up for it though!

So i've told you mine... what are you up to??

No set plans for me. My main fishing buddy will be away so will probably look to take the old man for a landbased session somewhere easy (as we both have emphysema lol). Also the wife has a couple of weeks off so we might head off somewhere at some stage too.

Not doing any rooves this year...children will be distraught !  :P

Quiet time for me - just socialising with the extended family who will gather from all points of the globe. Not likely to be on the water again this year, which is a bit hard to take but can’t wait to try for crabs, prawns and pelagics for the rest of summer.

I will now also be spending some time trying to picture @benno573 fishing with just one rod at a time, and trying not to picture @ellicat dancing on my roof with a sack full of cherry ripes.

Merry Christmas everyone and thanks for your company in 2018.  Looking forward to catching up with some of you online and in person in 2019.

You show me yours Ill show you mine? Is that what this is?

Sorry mate but you are not Jenny Rylie from grade 4 and you have lost your chance. Dont tell Mrs Drop bear about grade 4 antics... she won't understand.

But any way this Christmas we are heading to the outlaws for a relaxing family holiday at Noosa... the trick will be not putting the Noose in Noosa...

I plan to be on the water before 5am every day. This way all the pretend anglers that want to come fishing but wont set the alarm before 9am can go get a coffee instead of casting my $25 lure into the snag and laughing about loosing it...

Noosa for 6 nights then back to Brisvegus and off to Straddie for new years and back on the 1st or 2nd. If the wind is good I will drag the boat over to Straddie for some beach launches.

I apologize for being away, you can come along if you’d like - kozzie should be a doddle for the emphysema express! 🤣

I hope to get out just depends on the weather etc.

Plan was to spend Christmas day over at Moreton Island doing a little snorkeling and having a picnic on the boat with the family. We'll see what the weather does.

Otherwise pull the yak our for a local skinny water bass session.

Merry Christmas to all and Happy new year.

I've had enough of not getting out fishing with the Xmas rush at work.

Come tomorrow lunch time I'm packing the boat and my son Luke and I are going to brave the 20knt+ winds overnight on the boat so we can get an early start Saturday morning.

Not a great day forecast but just have to get out.

See where the day takes us, but somewhere through the day I would like to do some trolling for a Dollie, Marlin, hoo or mack if we are lucky.

I’m hooking the boat up and heading off with the missus for ten days up on our 4acres at Agnes Water. No dogs, no kids (well actually my daughter will be up later in our stay for a few days)

We hope to get some crabbing done and maybe a play offshore depending on the weather. I’m booked on a charter for the 27th so fingers crossed for good weather. I need some reef fish in the freezer.

merry Christmas all.

Keen to hear how you get on.

I had a bit of a troll round the trench yesterday (Thursday) but the wind got up early and looked like it was gonna blow out so we pulled the pin early.

We did pick up a nice cobia on a hardbody we had swimming in the spread.

Disappointed to call it early but was still great to get out as I haven't had much opportunity lately!

Water temp was 25+ at the trench. Acres of tiny bait in shallow in the bay very little bait in 35m but we did find some round 40m.

We didn’t give it a fair crack really due to the wind. We were hoping to make it over to Hutchies and our to 100m but didn’t.

Thinking maybe tomorrow now but the weather is a little all over shop.

I'll be spending 10 days or so up at Proserpine, as we do every second year. Originally had planned to tow the boat up, even did a new axle and bearings in November. However our days up there are pretty full, and if the previous Christmas is anything to go by where it blew 30kts SE the whole time, I might be towing a a boat 2000km for two days fishing. Not worth the hassle, always next time.

Instead, I've got advice about a few spots south of PPP that hold sooty's, so might go look into that.

Merry Christmas all, whatever you end up doing!

just finished preparing xmas dinner. i used to butcher whole pig and smoke hams for xmas plus heap of pork and brawn and sausages but its too much like hard work and i now only buy some rolls of pickled pork and a lump of corned beef and smoke that.Only takes a couple of hours versus a week it used to take.

Cheers

All sounds great! I am just hanging with my kids the ex gives them to me for a few days and my brother who passed away in 2012 his kids are coming up from Melbourne. So I have four kids from 29-9. Will hopefully get a few days in the Brissie river with them fishing...

Thanks Robbie! So glad I didn't drag the boat up here, it has (and according to forecasts, will continue to) blown 20-30kts SE the whole time, with drizzly rain. Haven't ventured down to look at these creeks yet, trouble is due to heavy rain over the last few weeks, most of them are accessed by dirt roads, which might be a bit much for our new(ish) Commodore.

Oh well, might have to wait till I'm back on in the SE before I wet a line.
