what size trebles??

what size trebles should i use for surface poppers that are 40mm long used for targetting bream, they are home made ones but i have never made such small lures and as such dont know what size trebles??

Size 12 maybe. Either size 10 and 12. One of those should do. Use Owner stinger trebles. Sharpest around. Expensive, but will hook up more often.

Just have a look at some of the River2Sea Bubble Pops and that should give you a size gauge.

I use size 14 owner trebles for bream. Work a treat. Chemically sharpened is the way to go but you have to replace them every 3 trips at a minimum because they lose their tip and are then worthless. You can't sharpen them. About $1 each so not cheap. I've put them on all my bream, flathead and bass lures now. Makes a huge difference in hook ups.

ive got an ultra fine diamond file itll put a nice edge on a norm size chemic sharp hook, wouldnt hold much hope of a 14

Not going to argue size, but I buy VMC hooks on ebay from the US( do a worldwide search typing vmc in the fishing section) and pick up bulk lots of 50 hooks for about 4-5 bucks US. Postage is minimal,although they take a couple of weeks to arrive.See how much 50 quality hooks cost here to see what a great saving can be had. And especially with our high aussie dollar it's even less painless.

Great hooks too, I actually take most of my Owner trebles off my new Jackall lures and put the red VMC's on,as they are strong and IMO as good a hook as the Owners.

yes very valid point and a major downfall of cheaper lures use a size that would allow a bream to get its mouth around
