Pb Nanny, Coupla Reds And Some Goldband

Hi Lads, looks like everyone who ventured up towards Red country had some epic trips my self included. We left brissy for turkey beach just before midnight and after almost 8 hours in the car and another three hours in the boat (this trip seems like an eternity) we arrived after ten with the intention of staying for two nights and fish some grounds much further north than we normally fish for the first time. We used way more fuel than we we thought. So we ended up heading for  the ramp the next day around 3 pm with only ten litres left in the tank at the ramp Whoops. Fishing was awesome with some nice reds some big nannies and some nice gold band. We only got six or so trout but ended up with a pretty good haul considering we were only out for about 30 hrs and didn’t fish at night. Due to the fuel consumption we decided not to head back south for protection from a reef and anchored out in 60 metres of water for vey blowy sleep.  Any way here’s some pics from the trip86DA70C5-E1AB-468E-9AEC-D6603DA1755F.thumb.jpeg.8239e34e6416847e0e82fa8301013d51.jpeg80CC39EB-9EC3-47E4-91F8-A6D8B41377F7.thumb.jpeg.580e2d60742dcaee2bbbf4741e396238.jpegFF2CF969-77E1-404B-B32C-EE6A1BA0D690.thumb.jpeg.f4fcc5c6b503c9be2dba7f07351e8819.jpeg8998404C-B310-4D82-BE40-6C255BD691E4.thumb.jpeg.096838f420a80c66008d55aaff8498c1.jpegCE78E419-4D35-4267-B288-0083519F3FC9.thumb.jpeg.0c55f290228ff091a3fafa34c50553da.jpegD40C8FA5-4954-4DC8-92FC-916B2FD97BFA.thumb.jpeg.801dd305e0865c18525ec93c2c1b24f8.jpegDF0AF608-777D-4D67-864C-66C42E9FD017.thumb.jpeg.67f48f26e4b9159395ac9ce34a5b9885.jpeg31997CB1-9784-4364-874E-4E1E5E51864E.thumb.jpeg.276e0b4078f41c7a447a76f5b5c5bf80.jpeg

Quality fish there Sef and well done on the PB nanny - a whopper!!  Bet you were hoping you didn't have to paddle the boat back for the last few km's .....

Yeah lol, the nema setup in the boat we were in wasn’t working so we only had the analogue gauge to go off. It’s probably a good thing tho coz if we had a another twenty litres we would of stayed another night and fished broomsfield and apparently weather wasn’t real good on Sunday.

Conditions looked terrific and some good fish too.
Long journey. I bet you were busted by the time you got home.

Oh yeah I was wrecked. Woke after six hours sleep to clean the boat then spend the next three or four hours filleting and cryvaccing fish. Added bonus though we drove back through that weather system so the boat and rods got a good drenching at 90km an hr.

That's a big trip wielding great results.

Exploring new ground is always fun and not knowing what you will pull up adds to the excitement.

What is the advantage launching from Turkey Beach? (Going by google maps it is a slightly longer run because it's further west than 1770.)

Depending on how far north your fishing it is slightly less is on the water. But the main draw card for me is not having to worry about the tides so much which can dictate leaving and returning from round hill also you dont have go down that last road off the highway into 1770 it’s a shocker

G'day Jon

Great write up and take home there fellas.
How did you find the current up further north than us and what about the suits. Did they give you much trouble.

I believe the run from Turkey requires a 6k run north before you turn east. I have considered launching from there but was unsure about the facilities.
I'll PM you for some details if thats OK?

Well done, enjoy the feeds.

Yeah first day current was good second day it made it hard to hit some marks. It required using heavy leads and sitting on reverse but when done right we would get a good fish or two of the spot. Sharks weren’t too bad tho I did lose one awesome trout in 10 metres of water  to a big suit. This thing came out of nowhere and blitkrieged me. I watched it all happen in the space of two seconds I went from hero to zero.

Thanks for the update.

We had similar challenges with current and suits. Fishing in gear to hold the spot etc.
I've changed all my gear upgraded rods and reels and using new sinker designs to combat the elements of weight and current drag to get fish into the boat as fast as I can given the fight and predators.

But it looks like we all had a fantastic couple of weekends up at 1770 doing what we love doing. Currently planing April and May trips if I can get away and the weather calms down.

Cheers

Crazy mate... if you’re heading that far north might be worth putting in another hour or two in the car and launching from Gladstone or even yeppoon! Give you plenty more range in the boat to get more red fish. That nanny is a horse...

Yeah cheers mate weighed in at over 10 kg and went like an absolute train. Yeah yepoon is the go for innamincka I think it’s only 90ks on the water
