LAFMA Update ..... 31st March, 2019

Carp/Tilapia Eradication Comp - Wyaralong Dam 2019

The 2019 Carp/Tilapia Eradication comp was held on Saturday 23rd March 2019.  Thank you to all the LAFMA members and a few from Maroon Moogerah Fish Management Assoc who also helped out on the day. It would not have been a success without you and all our wonderful sponsors. Around $4600 was cleared and will be returned to the waters of Wyaralong Dam in the form of Mary River cod and Australian Bass fingerlings. For a more detailed account of the day, refer to the Fassifern Guardian article attached, or go to our web site  www.lafma.org

Bunnings Browns Plains - BBQ

Saturday the 9th March was very hot as the usual starters, Glenn, Mark, JC, Peter , Owen, Kevin, Tom and yours truly, were kept busy all day feeding the masses. I think we all suffered from heat exhaustion and crashed with a coldie when we got home. Around $1415 profit was made on the day.

Logan City Council - Carp Cup/Tilapia Trophy

Logan City Council's Carp Cup/Tilapia Trophy day at Demieo Park Marsden for Sunday 17th March was cancelled due to predicted bad weather. The event is now scheduled for Sunday 31st March and is mainly aimed at children (residents of Logan City Council only - adult supervision required) to get them outside and involved in new activities as well as education on pest fish. LAFMA members will be working with the Freshwater Fishing and Stocking Assoc of Qld (FFSAQ) and Brisbane Valley Anglers Fish Stocking Assoc (BVAFSA) assisting young and older anglers. Thanks to LAFMA members, Jason & Nicole, Owen and Kevin.

Tagged Bass - long term recapture

An Australian Bass tagged by me, as part of LAFMA's Logan & Albert Rivers Tagging Project, on the 24/11/2010 in the upper Albert River around Darlington Park, was just recently recaptured (11/3/2019) by one of LAFMA's members, Liam Fitzpatrick, in Scrubby Creek (Gould Adams Park) at Kingston. Scrubby Creek is part of the lower Logan system and is probably better known for its Carp and Tilapia. The bass was out for 8 yrs 108 days, was 205mm when tagged and 400mm on recapture, a growth of approx 23.5mm per year. Note: Logan City Council have a plan to revitalise Scrubby Creek and eventually stock it with Bass and Mary River cod with the help of LAFMA.
