Cleaning Overhead Reels

Good morning.

Move always used alvey’s, the occasional spinning reel and yes hand reels.

I recently purchased a couple of overheads for different fishing from my boat.

My question is how do I clean overhead reels, what do I need to do and is there anything that I have to pay attention to.

Hey shakey....

Use the soapy water you clean the boat with and a banister brush.

Don't gernie them,  just a shower setting on the nozzle is fine.

Drip dry.

Helps to back your drag off when your storing too.

Service them yearly.

If they're second hand I'd pull them down and check out the internals. People are pigs with their fishing reels. You'd be surprised what you find inside. Years of salt and corrosion.

Nice one Junky.

I always feel intimidate pulling reels apart. I did a spinning reel years ago and it didn't go well... Got any tips for me?
