Hey IlanC

The Wellington Point Jetty seems like a good spot for jewfish, threadfin, bream, flathead, sharks, whiting and cod. Livies seems the way to go, sinker to suit the run. Use wire if you're going for sharks as well. I'm sure another member on this forum will be a bit more helpful than me

Cheers Hamish

Hey guys. Decided i needed some essential seafood last night so went down to redland bay with my cast net and a rod. Caught a few whiting and even a legal one which was a good win unfortuantly it was at the cost of my cast net which ripped on the rocks while tryna catch some prawns. At least i got a few prawns before it ripped. So now im tossing up wether its worth reparing or if i should take a trip to bcf to buy a new one.....maybe a bigger one
      Hi all
Yesterday arvo I decided I would go for a shark session and normal session at the local park. I rigged up the rods and got to bed early, so I could wake up early. Well, that didn't work one bit and I eneded up still waking up at 6:15AM. I got to the park with my lines in at half past and then decided I would leave at about 10:00AM.
When I got there, I started on the jetty. The tide was roaring through, and I chucked my shark line out with eel that was caught in Brisbane River Session #13. The lines were baited with prawn I caught in the cast net yesterday. I initially had nothing, and it stayed very quite for the whole time I fished on the jetty. Change of rig, different casts, rebaits - nothing. I eventually packed up the gear and moved back onto the pier, and put my lines in there. It took about 20 minutes for a bite, and when I finally struck and hook upped I knew it was tiny. After a decent fight, which almost led to me getting stuck into the mangroves or around a pylon, up came a tiny catfish. I took a photo and threw it back, off it kicked -

After that, which occurred about 1 and a half hours into the trip (8;00AM) I kept fishing. In the half an hour I was sitting down, and talked to a couple of people (social distancing was applied ) and I just said I caught a small catfish. This may have been because it was near the tide change, which is about at 8:50AM. It was still a considerable time though, and I find fishing the channel made between the jetty and the bank works best on rising tides. As well as this about 8:45AM my shark line went off. I went over hoping I was on and to my dismay it had dropped it. I had the drag set, which in my opinion was a mistake, and then it came back again. This time, it just gave a yank and then was gone. Oh well, I was disappointed but I let it go .
For the rest off the day, well morning, there was not much happening. A far smaller strike on the retrieve on the shark line, a couple small missed hits and one good hit which spat the hook. This has been one of my worst days to date actually, but it is better than staying home. My mate came down as well and I caught nothing in the cast net due to the big tide. I think that next time we will go flicking plastics at Nudgee as well as put some pots in. Hopefully we can get a feed of crabs, whiting/flatties/bream and it will be an exploratory mission as we've never been on the kayak there.
Here are the statistics of the trip for anyone's reference -
      Stats of trip:
Tide: Low 2:12AM, High 8:30AM, Next low 3:20PM - I fished the run in, change and run out
Moon Phase: Waxing Gibbous - first phase after quarter moon, about half moon
      Time fished: 6:30Am-10Am
      Fish caught: Catfish x 1
      Bait caught: -
      Bait used: Prawns, eel
Tackle used: 650 Penn reel, 30lb braid, 30lb leader, 80lb 20 inch wire trace, 6/o circle hook, Rogue Fire point rod, size 6 sinker, size 1000 Sienna and 2500 Nasci, Shimano, 14lb braid, 20lb leader, 4/o hooks, size 2 sinkers
Overall Success: 40% - A nice morning out
Alright, I hope you enjoyed the report. It's a lot shorter than most as well, simply due to the fact it was so quiet. I hope you all stay well. Please login or register to view this image

A big thank you to SEQ water for relaxing their access restriction to NPD to allow the release of 40 thousand golden perch fingerlings on 11/4 under very strict guidelines. Only 2 prfma members allowed but they have given permission for a 4 stroke powered vessel to be used to allow a scattered release rather tan just dumping the fingerlings in the one place. There are 2 releases planned for Kurwogbah and more for NPD so at least the stocking can proceed despite the restrictions, ( Private post non official PRFMA]

Hi fishos hope everyone is still getting a line in considering these social restrictions and such.
So I've spent two or three nights a week over the last five weeks targeting sharks in the north pine river. I haven't had any success with the sharks, though I've caught some other fish. I've been busted off above the leader, had my trace bitten through, had large live baits bitten in half and smaller ones mangled. I guess I could say I've had a run of bad luck on the sharks.
Mostly fishing around dohles rocks and at deepwater bend a couple times and under the bridge on the north side couple times. Fishing with my heavy duty shark rod 30lb line, my 8ft gen purpose 10lb line, and my 6ft spin 8lb. I also have an extra reel with 30lb I sometimes bang on the 8ft if I want 2 shark lines in.  Using mullet and catfish for bait mostly.
This last 2 weeks at dohles rocks (I mostly fish both sides of low tide usually after dark)  I've caught some decent bream 35cm+ (and a couple smaller ones), a javelin fish about 35cm, two or three cats about 30cm and two large pike eels last night. I kept one of the eels for shark bait as I was running low on bait.  I was disappointed when I saw the first eel because he put up a good fight I thought he might have been a little shark.
      (continues after pics)

Please login or register to view this attachment I've done a little fishing in Sweeney reserve at petrie. I was getting baits picked off really quick so I put a little whiting hook and tiny bait on and I was catching catfish one after another but they were like only 12cm long. Couple of bream about the same size. Does anyone know if this section of the river is worth fishing? I've put in a few nights there and caught nothing bigger than about 7 inches. Done a bit of lure throwing there too and only caught sticks and snags.
I've heard that tarpon sometimes get into this section of the river can anyone confirm this or give me some info on the time of year I'm likely to catch them?  I caught a good one in a gold coast canal last November (after hooking up and getting my lure thrown about 5 times)  I really loved targeting them I'd love to get onto some more.
      Thanks for reading!
